Plant-based fats and proteins shine in low-carb weight management

The description of the diet's chief result being to slow weight gain, in one of the two studies, seems to raise the larger question of evolution.

I'd like to see if there are studies analyzing the progression of human statistics from calorie-poor diets and regions to calorie-rich ones. Then you'd need another axis to measure physical activity vs. inactivity. You'd need to understand geographical differences between societies like those in the Arctic that may spend excessive periods of inactivity due to climate in combinatoin with high animal fat diets which seem to occur in the same regions, perhaps out of necessity.

Maybe Ancestry or other sites can eventually be used to analyze demographics about health, in light of genetic lines. Do Innuit descendants do better or worse than those of a very active gene pool like those from the Amazon or Australia or New Guinea?

And from a maco level, are increased heart disease, cancer, and aggression simply system designed limitations on the human population, the equal of other limiing factors in other species to mitigate overpopulation? Maybe obsesity, multiplication of diseases and vulnerability to fungal/viral/bacterial attacks, and war/gang violence/mass shootings are simply nature's way of saying "enough"?

If so, then the debate about the ethics and morality of fighting evolution would be very interesting to consider. Do we hold a Utopian ideal of Star Trekkian manifest destiny, or some more synchronistic model of naturalism and acceptance of the order? Zathura or Zen?

I'm a simple guy. Nothing profound or deep from me. All I gotta say is living an active lifestyle works great for me. I've been weighing the same for a decade now. Going to the gym 4-5 times a week. I eat whatever that comes up or being fed to me. I eat when I'm hungry. I stop when I'm satisfied. I love carb.

I don't know why people think this is more complicated than it is.

Weight management is a product of technology, as is the need for it.

We could not be the overeaters we are if we were not the inheritors of industrial farming, medicine, modern housing, energy production, and transportation.

Only a few tribes of us, like the Innuit, could have gained weight and kept it on as young "workers" in the group.

It's notable though to remember that neolithic fertility goddess sculptures found are repeatedly those of fat, wide women, indicating some sort of privileged maternity class, or perhaps more aged mothers who had multiple children and had not shed the baby pounds. Either way, it indicates fat individuals were around before we had written language.

On a personal note, when you were in engineering, was it more of a challenge to keep your gym work up? Did your desk work cause you to spend long hours at work, many tied to a static position on a computer, and eat poorly?

Back in engineering, I developed a routine. Always stopped by the gym on the way home. I ate whatever came up. Never had to watch what I ate.

I worked with a guy that was a body builder. There was also another guy that was fit as hell and ran marathons.

My point is you always can find time to workout. I see way too many old, fat, and sickly people. It terrifies me. I don't wanna spend the last 20 years of my life being fat and sickly.

At my gym, there are plenty of old fit guys.

It's complicated because it's made to be complicated. Cheap processed food everywhere. Conflicting information and downright lies. A culture that tells us we deserve to gorge ourselves, equating unhealthy foods with comfort. Even here; look at Cormac's 'Have you ever seen anything more beautiful . .' thread. It's mostly cakes and pies and goo.

You were obviously born with good genes and metabolism that allows you to process calories more effectively. You have a passive income which allows you to forego the quick sausage dog lunch at 7-11. Not many have the same advantages.

I have a friend who's very fat. He's also probably one of the smartest people I know, especially concerning the bullshit that capitalist culture bombards us with, but even he has a bottle of "Super 24 Hour Fat Burner" in his kitchen. He told me he bought it out of frustration; he'd tried everything else. Losing excess body weight can be as disconcerting as using your non dominant hand for a week. It's not sustainable.

I'm not against food pics, but in fairness to Cormac, the times I looked in on his thread, there were mostly pics of interiors, landscapes, edifices, and natural wonders. If it's food now, it may be a seasonal swing in the holidays.

Back in my 20s, I was overweight. 5'8 tall topping out at 190 pounds. And I developed diabetes. I didn't even know I had type 2 until I went to my doctor because my left leg was numb. I also developed other diseases like gout. They eventually told me I had metabolic syndrome.

So, no, I do not have good genes. I've since reversed my type 2 and cured myself of all these health issues thru proper diet and lots of exercise. In other words, it took a lifestyle change on my part.

Tell him it's more than losing weight. He has to commit to a total change of his lifestyle. There is no shortcut here. If he wants to improve the quality of his life, he has to change his lifestyle. Stop buying those fat burner BS bottles. It took him a long time to get fat. It will take him a long time to lose that excess weight.

I'm now eating to live instead of living to eat.

I would blow anyone who brought me KFC though.

Cut the carbs. Sugars. Like sodas and Gatorade to wash down potato chips and Doritos.

Sure, you can still eat the stuff, just not everyday.
