So my doc just prescribed it and curious if there are side effects. I took my first dose and a hour later threw up. Anyone know anything about it?

I have taken it several times for short( 7 to 10 days), wth no side effects. Once for hives, and twice for rotar cuff tear inflammation. I would be surprised if it caused you to vomit, but I am not a Doctor. It is well known to have side effects longer term.

I suggest you speak to your pharmacist. They will be able to discuss side effects and indications with other meds that you take that may not be safe to take with Prednisone. It is a steroid so drink plenty of water.

Why were you prescribed Prednisone and for how long?

10 days to start then get checked out. It is suppose to clear up a really bad rash on my back ,arms, neck and chest that just won't go away.

I had to take it when I had an allergic reaction to Phenobarbital MANY years ago...

I was in the hospital for a MOST of the time though -- so, I felt pretty miserable to start with...

My belief is, that in MY case, it worked WONDERS!!! ..|

A friend of mine has to take it for the rest of his life (organ transplant) -- and in his case it has WREAKED HAVOC with his body... :(

SO -- the short term thing hopefully won't be TOO BAD for you...

Best of luck...

Ten days is a short course usually given for allergic reactions or inflammation.

Most people complain of heartburn, inability to sleep, changes in temperature perception, sweating and emotional changes (either too happy or moody). Usually they recommend you eat it with food to avoid stomach upset and heartburn. Nausea and vomiting would an usual side effect.

I've taken it a few times for low back pain. As mentioned it's a steroid and will reduce inflammation. The last time I hurt my back they wanted me to take it and I refused. I get very irritated at everything when I take it. I have a very short fuse and tear into anyone that makes me the slightest bit angry. It also makes it almost impossible to sleep. When I change my sleep pattern I get a migraine, every time. It's not worth it to me. I'll take some NSAID'S, pain meds and muscle relaxers.

Long term it has terrible side effects. I'd only take it if my life depended on it.

Steven.

Thanks guys, I have had difficultys sleeping and am irritable but will continue as the itching is unbearable...I hate taking pills more than anything...wish brandy would do the trick~!!!

Prednisone should be taken with food, that might be why you threw-up... What dosage are you taking? If your takinga a large dosage you'll have to be weened off of it.

I use to take twenty milligrams for four days and then fifteen for four days, ten for four days, five for four, and then I would start all over again. I did that for four months

My doctor told my that it might make me hungry, I was eating every thing in the house.. It blew me up like a balloon. I really packed on the pounds too.

I'm now taking ten milligrams a day for ever.. I have to take it to help me breath.

I'm the one that had a Lung Transplant that swerve spoke of in the post about...|

Going on twelve and a half years....|..|

I had to take 10 mg for 10 days for throat irritation that wasn't making my cough stop. The only side effect was weird feeling of chills turning on and off. Take it with lots of food.

As I mentioned, I took it for hives or the related angioedema, which itched so bad I could not sleep. The prednisone eliminated it for the 10 days I took it, but then it came back. I then went to an allergist, no help, and a dermatologist. The dermatologist gave me three antihistamines to take each day. Claritin 10mg x 2, Cimetidine 400mg--both over the counter--and doxipin once at night which requires a prescription. Those three controlled it but it continued for 3 years. They thought it was a reaction to food or something, but I experimented and never did find a cause. I guess my point is that you may want to see a dermatologist if it does not clear up.

I might add that when I got the hives, I had quite a bit of pain from a year old rotar cuff tear because I avoided the operation. The prednisone did not cure the hives, but the shoulder pain went away for good, I guess because the pain was from inflammation.

If it is still there and you have not seen a dermatologist, that clearly is the next step.

I'm surprise your doctor hasn't sent you to a dermatologist to begin with. I have to agree with Benvolio.

I can't believe you started off with 75 mg. I started with 20 mg and it tore me up in side.

With 75 mg, no wonder you threw up...

Just completed 4 das at 40mg then 4 das at 30mg then 4 das at 20mg last..4das at 10mg.

plus 750 mg or so of antibiotic for 10 of those das.

But I can breathe again
