Prostate Examination

Yes. The exam is simple and your GP can do it. I do not need to go into details to I? (Just a gloved finger up your arse and get felt around hard! (No love there...lol!)

At your age you do not need one, but anyone in their late 50s and especially in their 60s needs a prostate checkup and have a PSA blood test. Anything above 4.0 for PSA numbers needs to be checked out.

I had 3 painful biopsys within 7 months. All results were negative.....glad for that and more.

I'm in my 20s and have had it several times. Kinda depends on the doctor. First time I had it hurt, but the doctor didn't tell me what he was doing and it surprised me.

Not sure how you feel about this, but a female doc is alot better here.

The 'DRE' (digital rectal exam) is not only for the prostate but also to detect possible rectal tumors, hemorrhoids, etc, at which it is considerably more sensitive. Therefore it is a part of both men's and women's routine physical. It shouldn't take a skilled examiner more than 15 seconds to complete. It can be unpleasant, largely due to the cold lube on the examiner's fingers, but boys, trust me, it is no where near as unpleasant or invasive as the pelvics to which women are subjected as part of a routine gyn exam!
 
I remember coming across this video on Yotube. I dont know how often this way is used.

When my doctor did it, I lied on my stomach and he inserted a clear plastic tube (its about 6 inches long). He looks in it but I thought how much can he see?


 
I can't believe that video is on youtube. But it is instructive.

The video is how it is usually done. The plastic tube is something different.

That's the standard digital exam. However, he's going reeeaeaalllyyyy slow for teaching purposes. Most of us are in and out there much quicker since we know it is not a pleasant experience.

One item of etiquette- the examiner should offer the patient a tissue before they sit their lube-y ass on the paper. :D
 
i have a few exams its not that bad ,unless the doctor has very long fingers.:eek:

The doctor knows what to look for . . and besides, give him a little thrill ;-)

Well, they are looking for hardenings or lumps in your rectum. I would notice that first with anal sex and fingering.

But, it doesnt hurt to go to a doctor if you are concerned.

I dunno, just personal experience. To be frank, when a woman or younger person does it, they seem more concerned with your dignity.

I've had it done twice by younger guys, and the whole situation lasted about 10 seconds and then they told me to get re-dressed.
Same for the woman who did it.

As for old men doctors, they leave you hanging out there and try to talk to you. Again, just personal experience, so you may not take to a younger person or a woman.
 
Can't believe this question has yet to be asked in this forum...but if you're getting this exam from a cute young handsome doctor...how does one not get a hard on by this?
