PS3 Launch in Australia

So in other words, you're simply validating my point that SONY is to blame for why we aren't getting good (see: any) games until June, or as you put it fall. Sony has to give the devlopers their kits for game programming on their code and because they haven't given much direction for their obviously un-ease of use kits, games are just trickling out.

The 360 and Wii apparently do what they can to aid developers, particularly Nintendo, in which developers also had to learn how to program motion sensing and control.

And you may not want Happy Feet and whatever else but at least it has been made and is available, along with dozens of other games, allowing somewhat a greater variety. At least those games aren't just trickling in.

Don't get me wrong - -I love Sony. When my brother bought an Xbox last generation, I was like, why?

I want to have a PS3. It looks like a Cadillac. But when, say, Capcom, decides to make a shiny, happy, lovely game for the two systems (with very little disparity as the case of the current libraries suggest), and the average Joe has the option to buy either, then wouldn't it be common sense for this person to go for a more affordable route? If I didn't have a 360, but found out that DMC4 was coming there as well (a game that may have compelled me to buy a PS3), why the hell would I dole out an extra $200 for a chance to play it?

Sony's main man admitted that one of the reasons they can't keep exclusives is that, as of now, they're not strong enough. They haven't managed to sell a high enough number of PS3's to make the developers scream profit. But most people won't buy a PS3 unless they get the exclusives. So yeah, pretty sucky.

Gamesradar has a list of PS3 exclusives online. I hope Heavenlly Sword ends up being a system seller.

Oh, and if they can't make Killzone 2 as awesome as it looked in the unveiling, then they better just kill themselves now to save the grief.

Admittedly I would love a PS 3 as I am a huge PS 2 fan and player, but my main stumbling block has always been the price of nearly 1000.00 AU for a video game system that has not, as many of you have already stated, a big backlog of games to play on it to begin with. And, when you are an avid action and RPG fan such as myself, discover that the bulk of the small batch of games they are releasing are sport and racing ones, the incentive drops even further. Plus, in this day and age no matter where you are, unless you are a high powered businessman or have a job that gives you A LOT of dispossable income, paying just under a grand for a video game machine in one sitting is a huge ask.
As for the exclusive of titles for systems, I think it is safe to assume that the reason most companies now are spreading their titles on many platforms is so they have a better chance of recooping their costs of making the game to begin with. By keeping a title to one format or system they may have brand loyalty and system fans, but also by doing this they are cutting back their chances of getting a bigger slice of the consumer pie. By making a game available in as many formats as possible is in effect casting their net out further in order to gain as much profit as possible. Business strategy and marketability at it's most basic IMO.

This is always a big debate. People are always going to lean towards some fav, with a few evenly supporting all consoles.

I know I'm a broken record, but I still have to say that Sony is the weakest of the bunch, and I'm not saying this because of the Launch situation. It's all about thier attitude towards us, the consumer. Sure every company wants to make money, but Nintendo is at least honest in the fact that they just want to make fun innovative games. Funny thing is, until Sony made total asses of themselves with thier high and mighty attitude, I was totally going to get a ps3 at launch to go with my 360.

Sure MS totally wants more money, but they actually made thier console really user friendly, and it's very easy to make games for. The PS3 is nowhere near as user friendly, the UI is total crap, just like the PSP, the online system is laughable (and please don't bring up Home, Home is a hot piece of turd), and it's hard and expensive to make games for. I could give a crap about blu ray, seeing as how Sony HAS ALWAYS FAILED to come out on top when it comes to media (betamax, minidisc). I don't really even care about HD-DVD. Nothing that I really want to own will be out on either format for years because I like obscure stuff and anime.

After playing all three (my neighbors and my friend have PS3s), I have to say that I'm standing by my 360. I do like my Wii, but it is still somewhat of a novelty, untill something really good comes out. I'll eventually get a PS3, but probably not untill 08 when FF13 comes out (and it better be good unlike that crap political trashbag 12), and thats if Squenix doesn't release it on the 360.

Hey, hey, FFXII was awesome.

On a related note, those of you looking for a more traditional RPG may not be too pleased with FFXIII's direction. Apparently, the battle system will now resemble Kingdom Hearts.

Don't care either way. I like shiny.

^Hehehe, Awesome!

I was thinking about getting one. Until I found out DMC4 was coming out for the 360.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

And on topic. Ouch. I feel bad for the retailers that have lost shitloads, especially smaller stores that will have staked their entire profit in it.

If Kojima threatens to cut his own head off should they make the game multi-platform, then that's the cue for it to appear on 360 six months later.

If only sony had stronger first party franchises. Then we wouldn't have to worry about the constant loss of third party exclusives, which oddly enough are the games I'm more excited for.

i really wish that the PS3 will do well..... but at the rate they are going, they just aren't pumping enough good games out there....

for me, whoever put out Kingdom Hearts 3 will get me to buy their console... even though wii is pretty tempting regardless

i dont know exactly how many we have sold now i have been working at other places but i went into the store today and our cabinet can hold 4 ps3 consoles with more out the back and it was full so its definatly not sold out here far from it by the looks

And it's not the end of the world if they release it on more than one disc. Final Fantasy on PS1, remember?

Another thing that irked me is how Sony's line-up (Oblivion aside - - but I already have that for the 360), doesn't have anything outside of shooters and racers. I mean, come on, Sony. There are other demographics out there. The only other RPGs I know coming out are Enchanted ARMS (another port), and FFXIII (whose exclusivity is still up in the air might I add).

Gosh I hope they pull through with something to remedy that (I'm looking at you, Heavenly Sword).
