My boyfriend and I thinking about getting engaged/promised to each other and I was wondering is it normal for engagement/promise rings to be identical or can they be different? I know marriage bands are the same but I am a bit confused on the engagement/promise type rings.

Engagement rings, as well as wedding rings, can both be different. It is an intimate sign of commitment, so ultimately its up to you. There aren't any rules out there for them to be identical. Besides, even if there were social conventions, its between you and your partner and its your finger. Wear whatever you want.

Fist off, congratulations, this is really an exciting time. I am married, and I was really confused about this as well. It is all up to you and ur partner. My husband proposed to me, so he does not have an engagement ring, but to each their own. We had our wedding bands designed. They are not identical, but you can tell they are a set. I know a couple who have identical rings. It all depends on what you and your partner want. I wish you all the best.

My partner, soon to be husband, have identical rings. When we get married thus fall we are going to add identical thin bands. But there are no rules for this except to have a great time picking them out. Congratulations.

we have differnt rings we gave to each other. We could not fine what we liked as a set so we went differnt.

It does not have to be the same. After all, you will have to wear it for a long time. So might as well get something that each of you like.

Go with whatever you each like. I surf nearly every day, so I don't want to lose my ring, so I actually wear my ring on a leather necklace / band I wear 24/7. My partner wears his on his ring finger.
