So I have this bitchass atonal sight singing exam tomorrow, and I have the worst sore throat I've ever had in my life. Now, asking the professor to excuse me is not an option, but I literally sound like a dead croaking frog. Quality of sound is not important, but accuracy is.....

Now should I, sing in the falsetto register, or attempt to croak it out in normal, I probably only have an octave range MAX right now.

And what can do to make it feel better? Seeing as every time I clear my throat it hurts like a mother fucker :(

Chloraseptic (sp?) will numb your throat but it can also affect your tongue which is not always good when singing. I like to drink hot tea sweetened with honey. I would talk to the prof though because if your throat is really bad though, you shouldn't be singing. You could damage your vocal chords. Nodes on the chords are a very bad thing.

sniff sniff, it's 20% of my gradeeeee :(

The guy next door has a ton of vicodin, will that work?

Ginger tea. There are also special throat lozenges that you can get at health food stores or Whole Foods.

If nothing else, buy Sucrets and make apologies before you perform. The show must go on.

try gargling with alcolol (not alcohol). You can get it at the drug store.

I have taken one of those exams and I hated it so much. Anyway, what I would advise is this:

1) Do not talk unless you absolutely need to. The more you use your vocal chords the more those will get worse.

2) Like others have said drink warm tea with honey or something of the sort along with throat losenges (sp?)

3) Putting a warm towel or some kind of heating device on your throat will also allow your vocal chords to relax and begin to heal

4) If worse comes to worse do not be afraid to ask your professors to reschedule. I am sure some have been in your position before so they will understand.

I've heard that gargling with warm - not hot - salt water should help.

Let us know if that does anything for you.
