Hey my fellow JUBers!

The reason I'm creating this thread is so that everyone can have a place to click real quickly to find information about the St. Louis JUB Meet coming up in April of 2008, instead of searching through 14 pages of a thread to find it. :D

Without further adieu -

City
- St. Louis, Missouri
Dates - April 12th & 13th, 2008
Location - Gast Haus, located at 1740 Chouteau Avenue in St. Louis
Time - We are planning on meeting at Gast Haus at 7:00 pm on Saturday night, for the main event.
RSVP - Please PM Seth and let us know you are coming. We will add your name to the list of attendees below. Even if you do not RSVP, do not hesitate to show up! The more the merrier!

It appears most JUBbers are planning on arriving Friday afternoon and leaving Sunday evening. The main event on Saturday will be where the most people will be. If you can, try to make that event! ..| If not, I will keep updating this thread as time goes on about what others would like to do.

May I just also say - I went to the JUB meet in San Antonio late last year. It was an absolute blast!!! I would highly recommend coming to any portion of it if you can make it! :)

Hotel Accomodations
- I would recommend making hotel reservations at the "Drury Inn at Union Station." The address is 201 South 20th Street, St. Louis, MO. Just in case, the phone number is (314) 231-3900. As I said previously, the other Drury Inn Downtown is at 711 North Broadway. This hotel is closer to the Arch, but the Drury on 20th is closer to Saturday night's activities. The other advantage of staying at Union Station is that there is shopping and restaurants inside (hope for beautiful weather, but just in case!)

Transportation - Of course you can rent a car, and there has been talk of renting a van by a few members. St. Louis does have light rail that runs from the airport to downtown for quite cheap (I think maybe $2 to $2.50 one way) that could be an alternate for those trying to save money - instead of a cab, rental car, etc. Click here for a map of the MetroLink stops. If you plan on staying at the Union Station Drury, the MetroLink stops only a block or two from the hotel. According to the MetroLink website it is a 40 minute trek in all from airport to the front door. Click here to see a map of all the MetroLink stops, and the Union Station Stop is the one that is essentially right at Union Station and the Drury Inn. Click here for more information about Union Station in St. Louis!

Dinner - The main event will be at Gast Haus and please plan on arriving at 7:00 in the evening for a dinner with friends, conversation, fine German food, and drinks.

The After Party - The Complex has been brought up as an after dinner venue. A more low-key venue may be in the works for those who enjoy a more subtle evening (as an interest has already been expressed in this.)

I will update this thread with a post if I hear more information from Seth about Friday night. It is not 100% yet, but keep your eyes peeled here for new information! ..|

If you feel that you can make it, please RSVP in the thread located here. It will be a great time with good friends!

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to PM myself or averageguy. I will try my best to provide any more information I have.

Meet Us in St. Louie! :gogirl:

Sincerely,
Abs

While making plans to attend this event, I discovered that www.expedia.com has some great package deals going; flight+hotel+rental car in any two of those combinations.

Unfortunately the Union Station Drury isn't a part of the package. :(

But that's okay! :D

We want as many people who want to be in St. Louis to be there.

Expedia offers several hotels within a mile or two of our Saturday night meeting place to make the package worthwhile.

I have this image of a car load of guys driving in from the Mid-West somewhere hoping to find the
Gast Haus, located at 1740 Chouteau Avenue in St. Louis
doing what they can to make it there.

It's going to be fun, and it's going to be a once in a lifetime event, because each Regional JUB Meet seems to get bigger and bigger.

I've heard that there's a JUB Regional Meet in the works for Ft. Lauderdale, FL this fall, or early in 2009.

So, anyway, I wanted to pass this information along since most of us are on a serious budget, and are looking for ways to cut our costs to make it to St. Louis.

Hey everyone!

The general consensus is that we will meet at the North Leg of the famed Gateway Arch at 1:00 pm on Saturday, so everyone can get a feel for the most famous, and obvious, landmark in St. Louis. If you are a nerd about architecture (as I am) then you will appreciate this once in a lifetime opportunity - especially if you've never been, or (sadly) don't plan on coming back!!! (!)

I've attached an image of where it is exactly. I know some people are arriving late on Friday and possibly can't meet us then. So, the first thing we are planning on doing Saturday as a group is this. Especially for those that go out Friday night and need some time to eat breakfast and do whatever ;)

See attached image (and, if you need more of a reference, Google "St. Louis," find the Gateway Arch, and you can see your point of reference from there.)

And, don't make fun of my writing. I did it with my laptop keypad ;)

Can't hurt to post this here!

Hey guys/gals! :)

I just wanted to make a quick comment.

There may be some of you watching/reading the other STL meet thread that could seem somewhat "intimidated" for lack of a better term after seeing some of the conversations throughout that thread...I know because I've gotten PMs from people that have yet to post in here, but are [hopefully] planning on coming.

One thing I want to assure everyone - regardless if you have 1 post or 150,000 - ALL are welcome at the St. Louis JUB meet!

I assure you - anything that has transpired in that thread has been friends, both old and new, nervous, excited, apprehensive, bursting at the seams with anticipation. Even if this is not your way, in terms of being "out there" on JUB, please try and make it! I assure you we are all very nice people, and I wish nothing but a blast and great time for everyone in attendance!

Thank you for listening to this public announcement. Your regularly scheduled program will continue in the next post.

Guess who? :D

I thought I'd make a post about what to do in St. Louis in case anyone has free time to do things in between meeting at the North Leg of the Gateway Arch at 1:00 pm on Saturday and meeting at Gast Haus on Saturday at 7:00 pm.

First off, St. Louis has a LOT of beautiful and fun things to do and see!!!

Mainly -

The Saint Louis Botanical Gardens...

A fantastic place to visit. Unfortunately, the Chihuly exhibit is no longer there, but a great place to see nonetheless (see cityboy-stl's avatar for a preview ;) )

Map is here.

The City Museum -

This place is a friggin' GREAT!!! It's one of the top 10 places I would recommend in St. Louis, and it's been one of the top places to visit in the world. It's like a playground for adults! Plus, the world's largest pencil just arrived not too long ago! ;)

Anheuser Busch Brewery Tour - Well, what else can I say about this? The world's best brewery :p PLUS it has free samples at the end! Even if you don't like beer, the history of a place that's so old it's fantastic.

The Central West End -
This is essentially one of the gay meccas of St. Louis. So many fantastic shops, restaurants, clubs, etc., that I personally could spend all day there. Very close to downtown as well. Here's a map of the general area (a plus for those who like old/new architecture and "old towns" like myself)

Finally, but NEARLY NOT THE LEAST!!!

Anything in Forest Park is fantastic.
There is the Jewel Box, the Missouri Art Museum, the St. Louis Zoo (which is free!), the St. Louis Science Center which is badass if I say so myself, the Missouri History Museum, and the park is fantastic in and of itself to walk about in!!!

Just some ideas to keep everyone occupied in case you have "off" time!!! :D

(*8*)(*8*)

We have almost 40 people confirmed for the St. Louis JUB Meet! (!)

That is fantastic! :D

Don't forget - there's still time to PM Seth to let him know you're planning on attending! Only three and a half weeks away!

The more the merrier!

:gogirl:
