Chinese photographer and poet, Ren Hang, has died at the age of 29. His searing images, a carnival of milky limbs and botanical beauty, were celebrated and censored in equal measure.

Hang was arrested several times for his explicit photographs and experienced censorship throughout his career in his home country of China. His pictures were a celebration of brazen exposure told through a language of graphic lines and block coloring. His subjects, always nude, were friends and more recently fans. A self-taught photographer, Hang once said he shoots with "no plans."

Sad----clinical depression is so messed up---know a few people with it
His art and approach seems like things I've seen before ----but who knows where he would have gone with it--RIP

I only discovered this artist a few months ago, whilst leaving through a "coffee table" book.

I was taking by his approach and interpretation towards the subjects he shot. I didn't know his work very well, but the images i did see held a certain, to me anyway, boyish and at times innocent air.

I had no idea that he was diagnosed with clinical depression, or that he had been arrested several times in China.

It is always a source of sadness when a talented artist dies at such a young age. RIP.

he wrote extensively about his lifelong struggles with depression.

sad he had to take his own life.

he does leave behind quite a body of work.

I did not know who he was. I looked at his site tonight.
What a shame that this talented young man will not continue to produce his artistry.

One of my favourites that I've posted various times:
