Hey guys,

So for a young, generally non-hairy guy, my bum has been far too hairy in the past.

When I first started shaving my butt (NOT an overly close shave-- I used a dry-only electric razor like I do on my face-- not a razor and shaving cream) I had some little red bumps (ingrown hairs? or just irritation?) appear... not many, but I'd say about ten small-to-moderate ones on different parts of my buttocks.

Since then I don't remember having so many, but after not shaving for awhile, when I did again recently, I got some of those on my buttocks again.

Whenever I had just finished trimming all the hair down there, I apply vaseline to soothe the area.

Is it safe to say that these bumps will always appear? What is causing them? Is it safe to say that the more often I shave my butt the less this will occur? Any methods of prevention? (I know some people will tell me not to shave it/trim it but it's far better that way according to many.)

Thanks!

What about a wax kit from a drugstore?

And, how long does waxing last? It doesn't seem worth it unless the hair stays gone for a long time.

Is it expensive? How long does it last?

And if I knew what they do to the skin after I could just use those products on myself after shaving lol.

If you shave regularly your skin should get used to it and will have less and less bumps.

I shave my butt, balls and upper thighs (bikini zone) and after some irritations when I started shaving it's all okay now, except for a single one or two bumps every once in a while.

However, when I don't shave it at least once a week or so and let the hair grow the bumps on my butt return. It seems to me that the butt is more sensitive to shaving than other parts down there.

Okay, so perhaps if I shave it more often it will be less of a problem. It also would be more manageable and easier to do if I do it more often.

I've read that exfoliating the area also prevent these irritations. I am going to buy a light exfoliant to use in the shower.

Exfoliate. That means you buy an light abrasive cream and use it to remove some surface skin which otherwise traps growing hair and causes bumps and pimples to form.

Do it yourself waxing is good as long as you can get someone else to do it for you because it's too awkward to do a good job on yourself down there... but it's easier in the long run to have it done by a stranger because then you won't have to keep begging favours from your friends... so yes, somebody's going to see your booty  but you'll get over it.

It's the cost of waxing that's irritating.

Shaving is cheap, and VERY easy for me to do, so I'm going to stick to doing it, but more regularly and making sure to exfoliate. Problem solved! :)
