Some fun things coming:

Tracey Thorn will release a very limited run of a 7" clear vinyl single of "Oh, The Divorces!" backed with a newly recorded b-side cover version of Vampire Weekend's "Taxi Cab". Go to your local independent record shop in the UK on that date to buy a copy - in the US there will be a few available through the Merge webshop. http://www.mergerecords.com/store/

i'm really pumped about the Hold Steady LP... just hope i can get to our local shop to get one.

New Gang Gang Dance, Ariel Pink on 4AD Record Store Day Compilation

You could argue that legendary indie 4AD's roster is as strong as it's ever been, especially with new signings like Gang Gang Dance, Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti, and tUnE-yArDs on board. And on a forthcoming compilation EP, you'll get to hear early tastes of the music that all of those groups (as well as other 4AD artists) plan to release in the future.

Fragments From a Work in Progress is a limited-edition 12" that features new tracks and demos from the above-mentioned acts, as well as Blonde Redhead and the Big Pink. It's a Record Store Day release, which means you'll only be able to get it at independent music retailers on April 17. And it won't be available digitally, so be sure to show up early. Tracklist below:

Fragments From a Work in Progress:

A1 Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti: "Menopause Man"
A2 tUnE-yArDs: "You Yes You"
B1 Blonde Redhead: "Getting There"
B2 Gang Gang Dance: "Slime City (Heaven)"
B3 The Big Pink: "With You"

Beach House will release the new 12" single "Zebra" for RSD 2010.

"Zebra" will feature four songs, including new versions of two tracks from Beach House's BNM'ed new album Teen Dream. Maybe the most intriguing inclusion is "10 Mile Stereo (Cough Syrup Remix)". Since virtually every Beach House song already sounds like a syrup-dazed remix of itself, one can only begin to imagine how that might sound.
Tracklist below.

Zebra:

01 Zebra (UK Radio Edit)
02 The Arrangement
03 Baby
04 10 Mile Stereo (Cough Syrup Remix)

Josh Ritter's "So Runs the World Away" is being released in the US on vinyl on April 17th (Record Store Day) at Independent stores only.

For the LP's 10th anniversary, Epic/Legacy are re-issuing Moon by Modest Mouse on vinyl. The set, due on April 17 for Record Store Day, has been remastered using the band's preferred 2004 master, but it contains the original tracklisting, without the extras found on the expanded edition. It also features the original artwork and contains the locked groove found at the end of the first side.

for Record Store Day:

CocoRosie “Lemonade" 7” (sp884)

The A-side to this limited-edition single is an edit of one of the stand-out tracks from the new CocoRosie album Grey Oceans and the B-side is the band’s cover of the Beach Boys’ classic “Surfer Girl.” Grey Oceans, CocoRosie’s Sub Pop debut (and fourth full-length album overall) will be released on May 11, 2010.

Side A: “Lemonade”
Side B: “Surfer Girl”

Awesome thread!

I've been looking for the documentary "I Need That Record" (2008, IMDB). Anybody here seen it yet with any comments on it? Looks like a nice film.

Also, there's "Vinyl" (2000, IMDB) which is a fun watch too.

Pet Shop Boys release a limited edition seven-inch vinyl single on Record Store Day, April 17th. Side A features "Love life", Pet Shop Boys' hitherto unreleased 2001 recording of a song which became a hit for the Swedish group Alcazar. Side B has "A powerful friend", recorded in 2002 and never released before, which features Release tour guitarists Bic Hayes and Mark Refoy. (A proof of the single artwork is reproduced here.)

The record is one of a series of limited seven-inch vinyl records Parlophone is releasing to support this year’s UK Record Store Day. They include The Beatles’ "Paperback Writer"/"Rain" and Tinie Tempah’s number one single "Pass Out". Each release is limited to 1,000 and exclusive to the independent record shops taking part in the event.

Record stores in Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Sweden, Portugal, the Netherlands, Ireland, the USA and Brazil are also taking part.

Neil Tennant comments: "Independent record stores play a vital role in selling music from the fringe as well as the mainstream. We're delighted to be releasing a one-off vinyl single only available in independent shops as part of Record Store Day."

Beatles, Stones, Blur Backing U.K. Record Store Day

The Beatles, the Rolling Stones and Bruce Springsteen are among the high profile names leading the line for the U.K. leg of tomorrow's (April 17) Record Store Day - an event that organizers are confidently predicting will be Britain's biggest ever.

Over 150 U.K. stores are participating in the one-day initiative, which will be held in conjunction with other international Record Store Day (RSD) events staged around the world. Last year the total number of U.K. stores taking part in the promotion - designed to get consumers back into traditional music outlets - stood at 78.

The number of retail exclusives on sale in the U.K. has also drastically grown, rising from 31 in 2009 to over 110 this year. Significantly, the 2010 U.K. edition of RSD marks the first time that all four majors have participated in the event. In 2009 Warner Music was the sole major to contribute product in the U.K., providing 13 retail exclusives in total.

Standout product for this year's edition includes a limited edition two-track release from the Beatles ("Paperback Writer"/"Rain"), a live recording from Bruce Springsteen ("Wrecking Ball") and the seven-inch vinyl release of the Rolling Stones' "Plundered My Soul." The previously unreleased track from the "Exile on Main Street" sessions is limited to 1,000 copies, although the track will also be available on iTunes from today (April 16).

U.K. rock band Blur, who is signed to Parlophone/EMI, will also release its first new studio recording in over seven years - a limited edition vinyl-only single entitled "Fool's Day" (Billboard.biz, Apr. 9).

"We wanted to help make RSD 2010 the biggest and best event so far," Derek Allen, EMI Music VP sales U.K., tells Billboard.biz. "The indies have always been at the vanguard of breaking new acts and RSD enables EMI to give something back while at the same continuing to expose great new talent via performances, exclusives and new artist samplers."

Other retail exclusives set to be on sale at participating U.K. stores include releases from LCD Soundsystem, Lily Allen and Gorillaz (EMI), Teenagers in Tokyo, (Universal), MGMT, Editors and Them Crooked Vultures (Sony Music), Muse and Flaming Lips (Warner Music), while exclusive indie repertoire will also be made available from Bright Eyes, Yeah Yeah Yeahs (Wichita), The Fall, Pavement (Domino) and Midlake (Bella Union), among many others.

U.K. instore performances set to take place on the day include the Automatic (Cardiff), The Paddingtons (Leeds) and Laurie Anderson, Magic Numbers, Ash and 2009 Mercury Prize nominees Sweet Billy Pilgrim (all London).

"Everybody this year has been super supportive and they've all gone out of their way to give us really good product to put on the shelves," Spencer Hickman, manager of London independent record store Rough Trade East and co-organizer of the U.K. event, tells Billboard.biz.

"Indie stores have traditionally been very insular and don't talk to each other, but I think we've got to that point where you can no longer have that attitude. We're all in it for the same thing," he goes on to say, adding that record stores "can be the heart of their local music scene if they want to be and once kids see that and once they're part of it, they're hooked."
