Hi,

OK, I've had the annoying problem of the pop-up everytime I minimize my Outlook 2007 to my systems tray and then, say, 10 minutes later, double click on the icon to maximize it again, it does come up but the following pop-up also appears:

"Outlook is not responding. If you are using a Microsoft Exchange email account, you can cancel pending server requests by clicking the Outlook icon in the notifications area and then clicking Cancel Server Requests on the shortcut menu".

Now, I've come to the conclusion that I must recreate my mail profile, because I have recently upgraded from Office 2003 to Office 2007, and they advise to:

http://www.howto-outlook.com/faq/newprofile.htm

However, I do not want to if it will delete all my mail messages. Will it?

I use a Hotmail account through Outlook.

Thanks,

The default is to leave the mail messages on the server. so if you can go to like www.hotmail.com and log in and see all your mail at hotmail.com then outlook is setup to leave your mail messages on the server and you wont lose your mail files when you create a new profile. i actually don't even remember how to turn that off so that it doesn't keep them on the server. i can't even find that option anymore.

my apologies for the lateness of my reply. :(

Thanks both, I've recreated my mail profile but Outlook 2007 keeps on going offline... How do I make it stay online?

Thanks

This never happened with my old profile but since I've created this new one and deleted my old one, whenever I open Outlook (after minimizing it in the systems tray) it says in the bottom right hand side "Offline". Even if I click File >> Connect to Hotmail, it may not work until the 5th or 6th time and even then it will take itself back offline within 10 minutes or so. As I said, this didn't happen before with my first profile; just this one...

I use Firefox, I haven't fiddled with my connections, so it shouldn't go offline after retrieving mail, and my broadband connection is always on.

Thanks.

Hi Noelie,

In my 'email accounts', I only have one - the Hotmail HTTP one. I have deleted my other ones. In my 'profiles', again, I only have one - the Hotmail one... Would you suggest I uninstall all my Outlook components and then reinstall?

If I was to do this, how could I delete ALL my OUTLOOK components and not uninstall all my word, excell etc from Enterprise? It would save a lot of work...

Thank you.

P.S. in my 'data files', I have two:

1st:
Name: Hotmail
Filename: Hotmail [removed email address]

2nd:
Name: Personal Folders
Filename: Outlook1.pst

The second one is the default, but I want to make the first the default, but the 'make default' button greys over when I click the Hotmail one, thus desallowing me to change the default data file. I then can't delete the second because it is stuck as the default...

Thanks for editing my post! I didn't think of that....

I did remove an Exchange accound - it was entitled "MS Exchange..." so I think that was it.

Yes, I have found that email does stay on the server. So I retreived all my messages.

Anyway, what I did is this: I completely uninstalled Microsoft Enterprise 2007 and then reinstalled it. It seems to have worked. But I have a big f*cking problem!!!!!!!!!

Please don't tell me this is permanent: I went into contacts and calender. Everything has disappeared!! Ah! I should have thought about this before I was stupidly spontaneous. I'm an idiot. Is there anyway of getting all my contacts back??

Thank you!

Don't worry Noelie, I would never hold you responsible for anything that goes wrong. I'm afraid I am going to have to cut my losses. It doesn't look good.

After ensuring that all my hidden files and folders are available to see, I went here:

My Computer >> C Drive >> Documents and Settings >> <username> >> Application Data >> Microsoft >> Outlook

The only files that were in this folder were these (i.e. no *.NK2 nor *.pst files):

1. "Hotmail Outlook '07" - Office Data File - 2 KB
2. "Hotmail Outlook '07" - XML Document - 5 KB
3. "Hotmail Outlook '07.srs" - SRS File - 4 KB
4. "MS Exchange Settings" - Office Data File - 92 KB
5. "MS Exchange Settings" - XML Document - 7 KB
6. "MS Exchange Settings.srs" - SRS File - 16 KB
7. "outcmd" - DAT File - 7 KB
8. "outcmd.old" - DAT File - 8 KB
9. "OutlPrnt" - File - 39 KB
10. "VIEWS" - DAT File - 4KB

Anyway, I've been an idiot and lost 250 contacts let alone phone numbers, email addresses, home addresses, business addresses etc. Ah the shit life throws at you!

Anyway, Noelie could you advise me what I could delete out of the above files you see in order to clean up my computer?

Many thanks,

Me.

Edit: I did search for *.NK2 and *.pst files to no avail.

Hi, thank you - it worked! You're an absoulte legend, thank you. What I've done is back up all my contacts and calender onto my phone so if it happens again, I can put them back on!

However, I'm still concerned that there are no *.NK2 and *.pst files on my computer... Should I be?

Thanks Noelie, again! One thing - how does one create a new pst file for one's contacts, calander etc and how do I regularly back it all up?

You're a legend, I don't know what I would do without you. A saviour. Thank you for all your help (and all the help that you will be able to provide in the future, I'm sure)!

Noelie, I don't know what I have done wrong - I have gone into my

C: >> Documents and Settings >> <usename> >> Application Data >> Microsoft >> Outlook

However, the 'backup.pst' file was not there; it was still just those ten files that I mentioned above. I consequently tried searching for 'backup.pst' with no success. Do you know what I have done?
