Hi

After reading a previous thread I purchased "Registry Mechanic" and have been quite happy with it's function. However, our PC "guru" has issues with using it!!

Can anyone enlighten me ie., are there problems once it's installed re: taking too much disc space etc??

Regards

G

I've used Registry Mechanic for several years and have never had a problem with it. Computer savvy people can say and do what they like, tools like RM are an absolute godsend to computer morons like me.

these days talking about a program that uses too much disk space is sorta silly if you ask me. i mean hard drives are so large now and generally only operating systems or games are super huge. i mean registry mechanic isn't that large. i've used it. it's fine.

as noelie said a lot of the more advanced tech folks don't like a program fiddling with the registry without them knowing exactly what it's doing. changing the registry is doing some rather fundamental changes to your operating system (windows in this case) so i could potentially really mess something up. but fiddling with it yourself can do the same thing! you can make a back of of your registry rather easily so that you do that before you run registry mechanic and you can put it back if you don't like what it's done. backups of the registry are not that large either in case your techy friend doesn't like that either. ;)

Any program like RM is a ticking time bomb just waiting to F up your computer. Programs like that do whatever the hell they want and can seriously mess up your computer. Alowing some third rate software access to your registry is not only bad news, it just plain dumb, imo.

Even programs like Ad-Aware can be problematic, if you don't know what you are doing.

I had to install a patch called Evid something, that modified my connections settings so that I could connect to Shareaza, and Ad-Aware detected it as a security threat. Had I let it remove the patch, I'd surely have connection problems.

If I need to do anything with the Registry, I do it the good old-fashioned way, with regedit or regedt32. I like complete control of my PC.
