Saturday night TV sucks these days! I remember when there used to be good shows to watch on Saturday night.

Mary Tyler Moore Show
Bob Newhart Show
All in the Family
The Ropers
Hart to Hart
Love Boat
CHiPs
Fantasy Island
WKRP in Cincinnati
Hill Street Blues
TJ Hooker
The Facts of Life
The Golden Girls

What happened to all the good tv shows on Saturday night?

Life is here so live it.

Most people have a life so on Saturday nights they go out and enjoy life not sit infront of a TV getting caught up in other peoples fake lives on TV.

Networks are well aware of this fact which is why "good tv shows" are not on.

Probably could catch reruns though.

I do not remember the above listed shows being on Saturday night -they were scattered through out the week at various times.

TV was entertaining to some degree.

I find TV to be such a drag now. I'm not into reality shows and the sitcoms aren't funny to me. I seem to watch a lot of news programs. Yes, I do miss the days when I liked what was on TV

I remember going out to the queer bar on Saturday night, then going home to watch Saturday Night Live, no VCR then, and then going back out to the bar. That's when it was real and funny.

I'm too young for all that, I'm afraid. However, I do remember Saturday nights of my youth being spent watching SNICK on Nickelodeon. Clarissa Explains It All, Roundhouse, Ren And Stimpy, All That, Are You Afraid Of The Dark? Now THAT was good television.

Here's some shows I also remember airing on Saturday night:

The Carol Burnet Show, Hunter, Mannix, CHiPs, Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, Walker, Texas Ranger, and I'm showing my age here: Gunsmoke, Get Smart, The Jackie Gleason Show, Hee Haw, and The Lawrence Welk Show.

Wow.

So, if I choose to stay in on a Saturday night and watch TV, I have 'no life'.

Goodness, I had no idea....Thanks for clearing that up for me, newboy.

Now that you mention it, getting caught up in other peoples 'fake lives' is
indeed a bad idea. In fact, I think we should abolish the very notion of the
drama, comedy and the theater all together.

I'll see you in the clubs, where things are MUCH more 'real'.

Josh

Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman
Oh yeah! I forgot that was a Saturday night show. When I was younger I would always watch it.

Xena and Hercules also used to be on Saturday night when they started off. Later on in their program lives they switched around, but that is where they started. (They were both syndicated, so they might not have been aired the same day everywhere, but here they were on Saturday night.).

Ah those were the good ole days.

You've got it backwards. When the networks provided great TV on Saturday nights, people stayed home and watched (that's a fact; most of those shows had huge ratings). Since nothing decent is on, people go out.

I don't think anyone mentioned M*A*S*H used to be on Saturdays, too. One of the all-time greats.

I remember in the 70's CBS ruled sat night TV. All in the Family, Mary Tyler Moore Show, Bob Newhart, The Jeffersons, Maude and who could forget The Carol Burnett Show

I'll always remember watching NBC's lineup which consisted of Golden Girls and Empty Nest in the early 90s when I was younger. Great times.
