Hey guys,

I've developed a bit of a "problem" recently. I first noticed it about 2 weeks ago. When I'm having sex or masturbating, my right testicle retreats from the scrotum into my pelvis, especially when I am lying down. I can feel it, a bump under the skin in my pelvis, near my penis. It's not painful, but very strange. I've done some quick web searches to see what could be causing this and have seen several different ideas (ranging from "it's normal" to "it's a sign of testicular cancer").

I plan to visit my PCP (who is female, so I'm a bit nervous about it and wonder what she knows about it). But in the mean time I'm interested to see if anyone else has this, what they've discovered about it, etc. Is it possible that this kind of thing is "normal?"

Thanks! :)

Yep, happens to me when I'm really turned on. One side only does it.

Its normal. Its only a problem if it wont come down.

The comment about testicular cancer is if it wont come down you wont notice if it develops cancer, so they surgically remove it. This does not apply to you.

Don't worry about it...have it checked if you want to, though, just to be safe. I have the EXACT same thing...right side and all (lump under the pelvis). I'm guessing that your nuts probably don't hang that low to begin with (like mine) and during sexual arousal the nuts normally retract toward the body. So, with guys like us, one of them gets pulled into the body. I just GENTLY push it back out...:-)

Thanks for the replies, you guys. I found the whole thing strange because I've never noticed it before, and it doesn't happen every time. I suppose the recent swing to cold weather (and lack of heat in my apartment so far) may have something to do with it (scrotum/testicles are hangin' closer to pelvis), idk. The first time I noticed it, I just felt the lump in my pelvis and thought I had a hernia or something. It was frightening. Seeing that some of you guys characterize it as "normal" and nothing to worry about makes me feel better about it. I'll embrace it.

The condition is called retractile testis. The testes are suspended by a muscle called the cremasteric muscle that attaches to the inguinal canal which passes from the abdomen to the scrotum.

When men get cold or immediately prior to ejaculation, the cremasteric muscle retracts and it is possible for the testes to slide into the inguinal canal. The usually doesn't happen often after puberty because the testes often reach a size that prevents them from completely entering the inguinal canal.

As long as the testicle slides back into the scrotum, it should not be a problem. Occasionally, you may have to apply a downward pressure to push the testicle back into the scrotum. If the testis does not return to the scrotum or if it continues to bother you, discuss the issue with your physician.

It happens to me near ejaculation if I'm lying on my back. Does not happen if I'm standing or sitting.

It happens to me when I catch a cold. Oddly enough its a good warning system.
