hello people!

not sure if this is the most appropriate section, but i'll lay it out here and see hope it's okay.

a bit about me... i'm not new to this site, but most of my time was spent lurking in the adult sections (blush!)
i'm 21.
anyhoo, i also did a bit of reading in the general forums and noticed one thing - it's actually a community in here! and that's why i'm here. i need a community.

it'll be 8 weeks tomorrow that i tested positive.

i went through a lot at first: mad, sad...
and it's still the same, just not in extremes.
but why i'm here, right... see, where i live (in a not-too-small but not-too-big canadian city, a bit closeminded,) there isn't enough support for positive people. and i speak from experience.
i'm lucky in that i have a lot of strong people to talk to, but i feel that the average person who doesn't, would/will have a tough time dealing with it all.

i want to make a difference.

the hiv meeting i went to (the only one here - well, there's another one but it's aimed towards the homeless. not helpful to me.) was - for lack of a better word - lame!
there was only me, and the person running the thing. among other things, i'm the only other person that's ever showed up. and... it wasn't running the last few months... and i had to ask LOTS of people to finally find out about it (no one really knew)...

i want to start a new, better, group from scratch. i got the money for posters, the balls to hand them out, and the connections (i think) to make it happen....

anyways, i'm just to ask for ideas.
-what you think would make a good group,
-positive people, do you go to groups in your hometown?
yes, why do you go? no, why don't you go?
-really, any comments would be good.

umm... that's all for now... thanks for reading!

thaaanks! i'm tryin'...
i'm also writing about it, but that blog ain't ready for the public yet =P

hey big guy, thanks for the kind words.

but about that article.... good to know i guess, but not that cheery! :(

Only 21 y/o and HIV+. My sympathies to you. I sincerely wish you the best of luck and a long, healthy future. I read an article today which you need to read. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,322766,00.html God bless and keep healthy.

Everyone needs to know about the new strain of MRSA not just HIV positive people.

Also, not sure I would be saying 'my sympathies to you' but I work in the field of HIV so maybe I have a different outlook.

To, marshbrochill I have sent you a PM as I may be able to assist.

I have a few friends who went through what you're going through now, some also at a young age, and I know it's not easy. I think it's a great idea what you're planning to do but I'm too far away from your social context to give you any meaningful advice on how to go about it.

You might be able to get ideas and perhaps also some help from similar groups in the larger cities of your province.

Good luck with it!

Welcome to the JUB community!! And yes, it is a community back here. Don't worry, I think we all started coming here for the adult section. I know I did years ago.

It's an interesting question. I wish I had more advice to give you. Perhaps as suggested, look toward the organization of such groups in bigger ciites and see what worked/ didn't work.

yeah, that's good advice!
i'll do my research on Vancouver... Toronto...
Ottawa, too...

anyhoo. i talked to my specialist today, and told her what i thought about the organizations here - she already knew, and agreed!
she recommended to go down and talk to them myself. she told me that she has, but it would mean more for someone like myself to complain about it all...
