Don't know how popular she was in the US but she was a huge star in the UK and Australia back in the swinging 60's. She was part of my growing up and I loved her music, loved her voice and loved her TV shows. My heart is sad today. :(

Cilla Black, singer and TV star, dies in Spain.

Singer and TV star Cilla Black, who enjoyed a 50-year showbusiness career, has died aged 72, her agent has said.
The 1960s singing star became a popular TV celebrity on such shows as Blind Date and Surprise Surprise.
Spanish police said a woman named Priscilla White - Black's real name - had died in Estepona on the Costa del Sol, where the star had a home.
The death appeared to be due to natural causes, but this had not yet been confirmed by tests, police said.
"It is with deep sorrow that I confirm... the passing of singer and TV personality Cilla Black," said her agent, Nick Fiveash.
"Details of her death will be announced following the coroner's report. Her family have asked for their privacy to be respected at this time."
Prime Minister David Cameron has paid tribute to the entertainer, remembering her as "a huge talent who made a significant contribution to public life".

It's sad that she's died, but I never cared for her singing and her TV shows, Surprise, Surprise and Blind Date mainly, were simply dreadful.

Never has any entertainer owed more to one person for their fame as Cilla Black does to Paul McCartney. Lol.

It was "White", actually. She was born Priscilla Maria Veronica White. Dead at 72. I thought she would go on forever. :(

I think she was mainly a UK, Australia and NZ phenomenon. She had a TV show in the late 60's and Paul McCartney wrote the theme tune for it, which became her biggest, and really her only, hit. McCartney's version of Step Inside Love appears on the Beatles Anthology 3.

I agree. She wasn't much of a singer, far too nasal and adenoidal. She was much better as a presenter

Also, the whole heavy Scouse accent was pretty much put on for the fans. In private she was much more RP
