RIP Mr. Jefferson.

The Jeffersons Original Theme Song

How out was he?

^ I did not know that....so cool that one of the most iconic characters was played by a gay man.

Rest in Peace Sherman...George was one of TV's funniest characters...

In fairness to Sherman..He never married or had kids but NEVER went public with his Private life...That does not mean he was Gay...it does mean he was private and there's a lot of Actors that are VERY Private....

God! 2012 is the year of death. Who is next?!?

Amen will always be one of my favorite shows. RIP Sherman.

Sherman Hemsley was a wonderful as George Jefferson.
He had a way of making the social climbing, image-oriented, George Jefferson a beloved character.
His one liners and snappy responses remain with us today, almost 40 years later.
We watched him transform from his ridicule of Tom and Helen Willis (the show's mixed-race couple) to accepting them as foils in his exploits.
He even understood Archie Bunker, and was able to look past Archie's racism and bigotry.
Oh yes, he played other characters, but he will always be George Jefferson to me...

RIP Mr. Hemsley

Was lucky enough to catch this show on tv when I was younger. RIP Mr.Jefferson.

Sherman Hemsley made me smile... and that's enough. :D

He was one of the many performers that really enhanced the genius of Norman Lear.

Thanks for a wonderful career, Mr. Hemsley! :=D:

Sherman Hemsley Was A Gay! Deal With It!

Nobody sputtered more comically than Sherman Hemsley, the enjoyably oafish and scheming George Jefferson from the classic sitcom The Jeffersons.
I was sad to hear that he died last week.

I was also horrified to hear him referred to over and over as "a lifelong bachelor."

What is this, Merv Griffin all over again?

Um, he was gay.

Is that so horrible to come out and say?

Nope, not at all.

A friend of mine even notes that he knew hustlers that tricked with Sherman!

Yes, he paid for it!

Love it!

I guess it was only his character who was cheap.

well, it's not like people weren't saying that about him before he died. in fact, i could pull up threads on another website that i go to that were spectulating that he was gay back in 06 along with the guys that played uncle phil and carl winslow. ever since the guy that played carl winslow confirmed he himself was gay, the rumors about uncle phil and sherman hemsley really heated up.

hell, there's a rumor that says the guy that played uncle phil has full blown AIDS from one of his lovers. if you look him up nowadays, dude looks really sick. he's not even recognizable.
