How long after getting a Rocephin shot for gonorrhea does it start to relieve symptoms?

I know it takes at least 7-9 days to cure the infection, but how long until the symptoms are abated?

Anyone here have experience? I also have taken a gram of Zithromax too, in case that matters.

There's no answer that covers all patients but most people say that the discharge and other symptoms will lessen on the first day after the shot. Usually within 1-3 days, most of the symptoms have resolved.

It is strange to me how one shot is supposed to last for 7-10 days in your body. Did I understand this right? I was nervous at the clinic and did not ask for a translator in advance but I wonder if I should.

Both drugs are very safe. They both wash out of your system after about 4 days, though the levels are too low after the first day to matter much.

Intramuscular injections are usually intended to have delayed absorption. Rocephin doesn't last for 7-10 days intramuscularly though. It peaks at about 6 hours and is pretty much cleared from your system after 2 days.

The azithromycin (Zithromax) is coverage for chlamydia co-infection. They usually don't test for it and just treat for it if you test positive for gonorrhea.

So it kills the gonorrhea in 6 hours? I am not a medical person but that seems terribly quick to me!

No. It will normally take 5-7 days for symptoms to disappear, sometimes sooner.
