Roland Emmerich predicts doomsday in "2012"

Danny Glover, Thandie Newton and Oliver Platt may be making a date with "2012".

The actors are in discussions to join "Godzilla" director Roland Emmerich's latest disaster movie. The Columbia project centers on the heroic struggle of the survivors of a global cataclysm.

Glover would play the president, with Newton in discussions to play his daughter. Platt would play the president's chief of staff. John Cusack and Chiwetel Ejiofor already are on board.

"2012" was shopped around with a $200 million budget, but Columbia said it will be made for less than that. The studio is planning a July 10, 2009, release, with filming set to begin next month -- unless there is an actors strike.

I love post-apocalyptic films, but with Roland Emmerich involved, this is sure to suck.

OH GOD!!!! im so tired of his films!!! why are they all about the end of the world? all those things cant happen at once! maybe he should do a movie where aliens attack a giant wave that freezes godzilla and giant spiders attack some cavmen.

The only good thing hes responcible for is stargate. and even the tv series is a bit better than that.

Amanda Peet has landed the female lead in director Roland Emmerich's epic disaster feature "2012."

The film's cast, led by John Cusack, includes Chiwetel Ejiofor, Thandie Newton, Danny Glover and Oliver Platt.

"2012" revolves around a global cataclysm and the heroic struggle of the survivors. Cusack plays a divorced father trying to become a writer while holding a job as a limo driver. Peet will play Cusack's ex-wife, newly married to a wealthy man.

Emmerich ("Independence Day," "The Day After Tomorrow") wrote the script with Harald Kloser. "2012" is scheduled for a July 10, 2009, release date.

I'm sure it will have a corny happy ending, along with a sappy backstory that nobody cares about, as most doomsday movies do. It kind of takes the doom out of doomsday.
