I guess the Alameda stories could have gone on forever, but I think I made my point (repeatedly) about the importance of gays helping each other over life's rough spots.
My current concern is that that is the only point I have to make.

Hmm ... I have tried starting something with Tom in Washington but it keeps coming out like a version of Alameda with bigger buildings.
To satisfy an earlier request, maybe I'll try dusting off Route 17, removing the technically chaste, but scantily-attired 17 year-old, and see how that goes.

I check back here now and then to make sure of some facts that apply to a story I'm currently working on. It's fun (for me, at least) seeing the hit count on this story keep rising.

I'm thinking I should make up the electronic equivalent of 3x5 cards on each character. I keep having to check on ... what's his last name? what kind of sex does he like? how big is his ... etc.

Rory, another profound statement. What a wonderful experience immersing in the lives of so many colorful, interesting and loving characters both in Eric's Story and now Rory's story. I feel like I am losing some wonderful friends at the end of this story. I wanted the friendship with these wonderful guys to last much longer. I will truly miss them, but will think of them often. You have done a wonderful job inviting us into the lives of such unique and different people. The caring demonstrated between them and the love you depict between them with such great passion is totally amazing to me. You are such a gifted writer, and I bet, if the truth be known, a very passionate and caring person yourself. Your writing certainly reflects that. I am still enjoying Country Cousins, but I have can't thank you enough for your gifted writing and the true enjoyment I have experienced from reading Alameda, Eric's Story and Rory's Story. I am off to read the next one in the order your gave us. I just wish I had had the opportunity to be a friend of all these guys. What a wonderful group of guys to have lived with and care about. Keep writing, my friend. It brings such great joy.

You've got that right, Don. I just started "Four Miles and Counting" and all the great characters are back again. I am loving it! Rory is so gifted. I can't get enough.
Rory is a very good author. I won't say a lot because I've read all of the stories. Like real life they have their ups and downs.

Just finished Rory's Stories, and I think bigcannon was spot-on in his comments. To quote his excellent overview:
What a wonderful experience immersing in the lives of so many colorful, interesting and loving characters both in Eric's Story and now Rory's story.
The characters were all those things, but above all they were essentially human. You presented their hopes, their insecurities, their searching for love and stability, their mistakes and successes. They were all believable. I felt I knew them and wanted the best for them. The ending was moving, both because it was unexpected and because the final two paragraphs you gave us were both profound and wistful, and left me wanting more. Perfect.
Rory, you're such a talented writer. Your stories are so entertaining. You have such a clever way with words, you move the stories along at just the right pace, and you write dialogue brilliantly. There was some musing in the commentary about whether you were using too many commas. For what it's worth, I don't think you were. I reckon you've got punctuation mastered! I noticed you like to use a semicolon to separate two elements of a sentence. I like that construction.

I am sad that the tale has finished but encouraged to know that you carry it on in your "future" threads. I look forward to possibly more bicoastal adventures, being a bicoastal guy myself. And I still hope you do a whole book on Tony and the Peralta family.
