I just got a LNT46
61F for christmas. If i were you, i would not waste the extra $500-1000 on a LNT46
71F or LNT46
69F. I would instead, save $500-1000 and get an LNT46
61F or LNT46
65F if you want a newer model with a faster visual processor.
The
69F and
71F are the newest models, and therefore much more expensive, but their specs are virtually identical to the
65F. I got a
61F because it was on sale for only $1500. A
65F will run you around $1800-2000, while a
69F or
71F will be anywhere from $2500-3200.
I am wholly pleased with my
61F beyond compare, even though it has a slightly slower visual processor than the
65F. In fact i don't notice a difference between the two. However, if you are likely too, then go with a
65F.
In my opinion
(and in the opinion of Consumer Reports, which rated the LNT4661F the #1 Best LCD TV in the 43" to 47" category for 2007), the samsung LNT46
XXF series is the best on the market, even beating the Sony alternatives. So i would get a Samsung if i were you. However, Sony did take
second place.
Now, a word of advice before your purchase, in early 2007 all Samsung TV's experienced an HDMI handshake problem, requiring new mainboards for the TVs. However the problem was fixed in june. There are 2 ways to check and make sure you have a TV with the updated hardware. The first is to check your firmware version, and the second is to check the serial number on your box before you buy it. The 8th numeral in samsung serial numbers indicates the year of production, and the 9th number indicates the month of production. If the 9th number in you serial is equal to, or greater than, 6, you have a fully updated set.
As long as you take that one thing into consideration, there is no way you would not be pleased with a Samsung LNT46
XXF set. They're simply the best out there. But again, i'd save some cash and get a
61F or
65F if i were you, and use the extra dough to get a nice 5.1ch surround system to go with the new TV.
Be sure to check out the
