Three days ago I woke up in the morning, and had this "where is my arm" - thing.Problem is,that,it has lasted three days now,Everything from wrist down works perfectly, but from shoulder to wrist,It is like it would have been month in a cast. You can't move it,because of muscle atrophy.Perhaps Karabulut can point a most comprehensive medical article available.

I know that phenomenon, had them in the past. This thing is called "saturday morning paralysis",it has lasted three days straight.Surely I am not sleepwalking? :)

.
sort of off topic,
this morning I woke up with a sleep t shirt on and my other shirt on the bed.
I don't remember i've changed the shirt.

Off-topic: - The best sleepwalking thing I had heard, was when some female in the U.S drove her car,got speeding ticket, and when woke up,didn't remember a thing.....and sad ones too...one walked off of fifteenth story balcony.

For clarification,I don't have muscle atrophy,of course, but it feels like that, when your limb has been in a cast.

It's sleep paralysis.

Sleep paralysis is actually a mechanism to stop you from acting out your dreams. During REM sleep(or your dream stage), a mechanism in the brain prevents your from moving, thus stopping you from acting out the dreams.

Your experiences are caused by a malfunction of this mechanism. Although you've come out of your REM stage and as you start to wake up, your normal sleep paralysis stays on. This causes what you're experiencing now.

Some people still are partially in their REM stage of sleep, but are still partially awake. Combine that with a malfunction in sleep paralysis, they still "see" part of their dream while they're awake, yet cannot move. It's funny because I heard my sister and cousin talking about how they recently had the same experience you've been having. Except when they wake up, they see the devil, yet cannot move.

This is different though, is it not? Only one part of one limb is affected.

That thing is completely different,I have experienced that years ago.Left hand from elbow to wrist.Past three days.I am awake. And performing daily activities. It must be kind of nerve damage,or something.

Fourth day,no improvement,I had been to doctor, and they were amazed, not seeing this thing before, then they consulted neurosurgery specialist, who said, that this kind of things happen, should be better,in three days, three weeks, few months,or never.Thought two last options are extremely rare.I went to private doctor,he said pretty same things, except, that he was able to provide the name for this.I still want Karabulut's opinion too,and that literature, that he might be able to point to me.

Nothing has still changed,I will get neurosurgeon consultation in few weeks.probably in next week.

When I saw this thread last week, I thought to myself, "This one is going to be hard to diagnose". There are several unusual things- the sudden onset, the fact that it is in the middle of the arm, affects only one side and the fact that it has persisted for a week.

In the US, you would probably get an MRI of the brain and upper spine, perhaps an EMG and a referral to a neurosurgeon. It sounds like you've got an appointment with a neurosurgeon- hopefully they will get you scheduled with him in the next week.

And it only affects one side of the movement,I could push myself away from the wall,(if hand is lifted to right position).but opposite movement, nothing.from wrist down ok,except little needles and pins in a thumb, but I could lift weightlift from the floor without problems.and carry things..forward movement from the elbow to forward, nothing, and from shoulder down,.or to any direction, nothing.
I already got appointment,I am waiting letter next week.

Neurosurgeon appointment is tomorrow, let's see what she/he says...it had got a little better in these days, but far from working.

I'm pretty sure, that they will do an EMG,but to MRI,it really has to be serious,..they don't use it here like M.D House. :) ..I don't know if in the U.S either.

I was on neurosurgeon's appointment today... They will do an EMG,but basically, she said, that time will heal.As it already had. This is kind of an "inverse" Saturday morning paralysis,so to speak, she said, that my hand should not work at all from wrist down,if it would be that. And I have the exactly opposite.

Oliko se neula EMG? Ja herätepotentiaalien hermo potentiometri...Olen ensi viikolla yhdeksästoista ... olen peloissani :/

I had the EMG Today, and I will have the MRI,just to rule things out.Thesis,so far is: - since I had been having a high dose Lyrica - binge in preceding two weeks before the occurence of paralysis (I forgot to mention that here,no to doctor at any moment),since Lyrica is also a pain medication for peripheral neurodamage pain, and since I was passed off of that,my body was unable to detect imminent neural damage. But since time is already healed a great deal of it,will be ok.
