am I the only person around who gets splitting headaches occassionally from intense orgasims during sex? I thought the girl was supposed to say "I have a headache" before and not after sex? ;) Give me 2 aspirin please!

It's happened to me after unusually intense orgasms, though not often enough that I've been concerned, but it does ruin the "afterglow" and they are some of the worst headaches i've ever had, save the occasional migraine.

You may be dehydrated after sex. Your brain is 85% water. If you aren't properly hydrated, you can get headaches. I used to have the same thing but I find drinking a big glass of water (before or after) tends to stop that from happening. Granted, you may find that you have to pee after sex, but that's okay.

You're right about ruining the afterglow! Man! This morning I had had only several cups of coffee, and then ... kapow! Well, at least there were a lot of fun moments before the kapow!

Yeah! This happened to me once about a month ago. My partner thought she had killed me!

Hope it never happens again.

My BF suffers from sudden headaches that seem to come ever so often and then disappear for weeks at a time.

Sure, it puts a damper on your sexual pleasure, but over the time, he learned how to cope with it and has been doing fine lately.

This has happened to me a few times in the past. It's usually when I'm feeling emotionally unstable. Those few times included when I quit doing some bad bad drugs and also the death of a friend and then a family member. Seems when I am emotionally screwed up I'm most vunverable to these crazy orgasm headaches.

So I'm having sex with my partner during these unstable times and WHAM!! Right when I'm supposed to feel really good, I'm crippled with a headache so bad it sends me to my knees. It takes about 2-3 minutes for the pain to calm to the point that I can move again. Probably another 5 minutes to go away completely. It scares my boyfriend really bad when this happens. But I explain to him I'll be alright and just need a minute.

After researching this I found it's not a common problem, but it does happen to quite a few people. I decided not to go to the doctor and to just listen to my own body and mind when it comes to these crazy headaches.

Thank God it hasnt happened in quite a while.

Any more ideas other than take 2 aspirin before or after sex? This is really no fun to get sex headaches. This never used to happen to me when I was younger. Is this a product of age?

Have you considered seeing an acupuncturist or remedial masseur? I've suffered sudden severe headaches and migraines my whole life which no doctor or specialist could diagnose the cause of, so in the end they called it 'non-specific tension headache/migraine (they're different)' and told me strong painkillers were the only option (not an option for me; i don't tolerate opiates). Since getting regular acupuncture (almost 3 years now) i nearly never have anything. I know it's not exactly the same situation, but it could work for you. Perhaps your partner could learn massage and take care of alot more than just the headaches...

At the same time, it's a good idea to consider everyone's advice of more water and also cut down on sodium (1500mg/day - it's easy the blow this out if you're not careful).

Caffeine can be a problem too. As a vasoconstrictor, prolonged use (several cups of coffee/tea a day) can be a major cause of unexplained headaches; but if you're not drinking any, the VC properties of a good hit (like a double shot espresso) can actually stop a bad headache in it's tracks.

It's refreshing to see someone after a solution that doesn't come in a pill form. Diet and lifestyle can fix most things.

Coital Cephalgia
and here is the explaination :P

Obviously, sex raises the blood pressure. This in turn raises the pressure in the head. Also, sex causes muscle tightening and tension. Sex headaches are a combination of the blood pressure and muscle tension, for most people. Some cases have been found where there is low pressure of the fluid around the brain and spine.

In rare instances, sex headaches unveil underlying medical problems. These include: meningitis, bleeding in the skull, aneurysm, tumors, strokes, and various enodcrine disorders. The more severe the pain is and the more the woman has other symptoms (tingling, weakness, numbness, changes in her vision, disorientation) the more she should consider seeing her doctor. The doctor will review all her symptoms and neurological signs in the office. If necessary, she may go for a CAT scan or an MRI. A spinal tap is done rarely.

The worst part of getting these head-explosions is their suddenness and unpredictability. I got one yesterday and am still recovering from the migraine it induced. This one was the most severe ever; I thought I was gonna have a stroke. Anyone ever get a solution PLEASE let me know.

The only good thing about it was the ball draining orgasm that came before I came.

Yeah sex headache really isnt the right description for this problem. More like sudden, explosive, debilitating orgasm migraine.
