ok so i have bad skin. i use gilette fusion power razor. my skin always gets absolutely horrible razor burn and red spots. my chin is always bumpy and sore, and no matter what i do i never get all the hair. i try shaving with the grain and it never even cuts anything so i do it against the grain. anyone got any advice on how i might get totaly smooth skin?

are you shaving in the hot shower? if not, you should start shaving right after a hot shower or while showering. it will soften the beard and make it much easier to shave. you should shave with the grain of the beard on the first pass. on your second pass, you can go against the grain, but if you get razor burn I would go at an angle from the growth of the beard. you should also prime your face by using a pre-shave conditioner. also spend the extra cash and get a shaving cream that suits your face... not the 99 cent stuff on the bottom shelf of the grocery store. i like Aveeno made from soy. don't use too much shaving cream or it will clog your razor and if you're using those disposable razors, you really can only use it 2 times before trashing it.

Ugh... I hear ya with the shaving problems. I've so been there already and know your fustration well.

What has helped me the most is shaving in the shower. I was my body first and then wash my face with various facial cleansers (Neutragena Acne Face Wash or Clinique Facial Soap) using very warm water. This helps to soften up my beard and then I use Nivea shaving gel and go to work. With my face being completely wet I am able to get a closer shave with a lot less resistance. The wetness because an added lubricant. After I finish shaving I pat my face dry and use Nivea after shave balm and then later use another Neutragena facial lotion.

It can turn into an expensive ritual but after suffering years of irritation it's really helped me. It actually makes me curious to find out how many other guys out there shave while in the shower.

Shave in shower is a must. And higher end shaving products. I use Clinique. Also Jack Black is very good.

I agree. Buy a fogless mirror from Target, and shave in the shower. I use the Nivea shaving Gel and Shick Extreme 3 disposable razors. Also, after the shave I use a Body Shop afthershave balm called Kistna. It keeps my face nice and smooth most of the day.

If you don't do anything else, make sure to apply some kind of facial lotion on immediately after the shower to trap in as moisture as possible.

nuetrogena shave cream is the shit! unfortunately, the only place i can find it now is at walgreens. i like to use neutrogena's face wash before shaving as well. and in the hot shower with a fog free free mirror.

i had to stop using gillete razors. i didn't like the lubricating strip. i haven't tried the new one yet. im in love with schick quatro.

i have also had to go to shaving only every other day. i just can't shave everyday. hopefully i never have a job where the success requires shaving everyday.

OK. Believe me, this will work. I have had years of practice and no razor burn. Shave with any foam (I use Colgate) and a good razor (I use the Gillette fusion). What is important is that you immediately rub your face with alcohol when you have rinsed the foam off your face. I know--it burns like hell and it feels like the top of your head will blow off, but it stops all the infection that causes bumps, sores, etc. Be sure to use the alcohol on your neck where the really tender flesh susceptible to razor burn is. Then use a good lotion, not necessarily expensive. I use the Oil of Olay knockoffs (scentless) from Eckerd's, CVS, grocery stores, etc. My lotion is named "Oil of Beauty" (gee, that sounds SO gay). I know, sounds like a load of crap, but buy the rubbing alcohol and the lotion and you will not be sorry. No need to shave in the shower, etc. Many of my friends have thanked me for suggesting this to them. Solved their problems with shaving.

I use Barbasol regular shaving cream, gillette fusion 5 Blade razor, and afterwards I apply gillette moisturizer with a spf protection, tightening/toning, unscented. I shave immediately after showering. NEVER shave against the grain. When you do that, you are just asking for ingrown hairs and bumps. Even Keiran from Queer eyes says NEVER!!!! He always said that speed of your stroke causes irritation. SLOW stokes only! (get it out of the gutter!) You folks who use the 3 or 2 bladed razors have no idea how much a couple more blades eases the irritation. Might give em a try!

I use a safety razor (one blade) and almost never get razor burn. I also use shave cream from The Body Shop with a brush and make sure to use very hot water and shave immediately after my shower.

Kiehl's Close Shaving Squadron.
Lots of hot water. Plenty of patience to rub the shaving/lubricating cream into your skin.
I am still using the MP3 battery operated Gilette razor. I guess, Fusion is the next.

After all of that Dr. Laszlo HYDRApHEL Skin Supplement. No alc. but very good desinfection.

Depending on the age, weather and the feel one of the Kiehl's facial creams afterwards.

Good results.

I get the same thing!! And it sucks, because part of our military regulations say that I have to be shaved every day. So I always get asked a million and one times by my staff "Have you shaved this morning?"

 ](*,)

Hmm. ok im gonna go to neiman marcus today then and buy some of that clinique shaving supply's and give those a try. also, yea i do always shave in the shower or right after. also, i keep hearing people say "shave twice in direction of hair growth" why only twice? i generally have to go over the same area 5, if not more, times before it actually gets all the hair thats there.

i have the same problem as you. I have to shave after or in the shower. And i bought some special shaving cream called American Crew. it is a cream not a soap that will dry out the skin and leave burns. And for the bumps do not go against the grain becuase ur beard is thick go with it.

The absolute best shaving gel I ever had was by the brand name Gatsby.

It's apparantly an Asia exclusive brand. I should have bought more when I was in Japan damnit. Anyway, it's not a soapy/foamy kind of gel. It's kinda like sex lube... but it gives you the closest shave without razor burn. I don't think you should use it as lube, because even on your face, it makes your skin feel all tingly. lol.

Uh yeah, It probably doesn't hope most people, but if you do see it somewhere, buy it and try it for yourself. I hope I can order it online somewhere...

I would suggest a little device the warms gel or foam. I purchased one from Hammer and Shauster. I personally can not shave in the shower, as I shower in the evenings and the shave does not last over night. I use a new blade every shave, lotion and warm foam. I follow it by an electric razor. I also only shave every other day(I am in a job where I need to keep tidy). If I shave every day my neck gets raw and irritated. The red bumps are caused by ingrown hair, when the cut hair curls under the surface of the skin.
