Everytime I touch my car door handle I get shocked. Not a little shock but a huge lightning bolt shock. You can see it. Even when I open doors going into stores or my work. I've started running the back of my hand across these doors before I try to touch them to stop the shock. I even burnt the tip of my finger once and let out a scream. I sounded like a little bitch. lol. How do I stop this? It's not once in a while it's all the time.:help:

Cool dry air plus friction from body movement creates a small electrical field around you. When you touch another conductive surface you provide a pathway or "circuit" for the electricity to travel through resulting in a small spark/shock.

Before exiting the vehicle grab hold of something metal (generally the door frame) and then step out, should do the trick. Or perhaps life is preparing you for something bigger?

The same thing happens to me. Winter or summer whatever the temperture is I always get a shock touching my car. I was once told there was a short in my car but no one else ever got shocked. I've always wonder what was causing it.

Ummm...discharge the static before you put gas in the car.

.

Yeah, i remember my sister watching something on Oprah about that. Some kid was pumping gas for their parent and started this huge gasoline fire at the station. It's really dangerous... :(

wood somehow neutralizes the electricity in your body. not sure how it works, it just does

Maybe you're developing super powers.

Yesterday was funny cause every-time I bumped into my bf or kissed him I shocked him. He kept asking what was wrong with me? LOL. I shocked him at least 6 times yesterday.I touched my nose to my dog and shocked his nose! I'm like that chick on Heroes.

Wood is not a good conductor of Electricity. Not not a GOOD conductor it does work to take out the static. This is why trees can get struck by lightening. I have cloth seats in my Altima I have gotten shocked. Most times I close the door by the plastic frame on the door.

You could have a short somewhere on your car, if you say it is as strong as you say. Does it throw you to the ground and cause convulsions?

The basic problem is that you, are building up static charge on yourself when you move around in your seat, and your clothes/jacket/whatever rubs against itself and the car seat. That rub the balloon on wool trick...that's what you're doing to yourself.

Cars of yesteryear had some metal in the interior, so you never built up much charge since you touched metal occasionally, grounding yourself. But with today's plastic interiors, you don't get that opportunity. So when you get out of your car, ZAP!

As for fixing the problem...Tom & Ray (CarTalk guys) recommend spraying Static Gard on your car's seat.

Thermodynamics has the best solution for this that I've heard of. This is acutally a problem all year round, but with greater humidity during the warmer months you usually don't notice it. Personally when I get out of the car I always reach up and grab the frame of the car just out of habbit, so it's not such a huge problem for me. It's a quick and easy solution for me.

okcnwarea, What series do you drive-- just curious I'm a big BMW fan. :-D
