Hey guys, so right now I have an iMac, the one from late 2006. :( I really want a new one but oh well..I have Tiger running on it, 1GB. 2.16 GHz Core 2 Duo... Have no idea what that means, so please help me out!

I have two options:
1) Get the mac box set, which includes iLife, iWork, and Leopard (Not Snow Leopard)
Its a really good deal, but its not the latest Leopard, and apparently Snow Leopard is soooo much better than Leopard, and I only have Tiger, so it would be EVEN better! lol I dont need iLife, as what i have now is sufficient, but I would like the new iWork, and (Snow) Leopard, and its cheaper than buying both separately, and I get iLife.

2) Wait until september, and get Snow Leopard, and later get iWork '09. Im not sure how much Snow Leopard is going to be, as they have not said yet, but on the Apple Store US (Im from Canada) it said it was a $10 upgrade for Leopard users. So I might just get the box set and wait for the upgrade and then install. Only problem is Snow Leopard frees your hard drive of 6 GB, so If I go with option 2, should I wait until Snow Leopard is out, and just save some memory?

Hopefully you understand what Im trying to do, and yes, I may be cheap, but Im not getting many shifts at work anymore :( Thanks in advance! :D

The upgrade price is $29 from Leopard to Snow Leopard. The $10 price only applies to purchasers of new hardware systems since June 8th.

Buy the box set, then do the $29 SL upgrade later on. Do an upgrade-install of Leopard from your boxset, then when SL comes do a backup of your files and a clean install. Leopard installs in less than 20 minutes, so its no biggy, and the claims are that SL will install in half that time.

Thanks, Sounds like a good plan. Just wondering, would I go into an apple store and ask to buy snow leopard? Or would it just come up in my software update? would I buy it online through apple? I dont have a credit card, so online might now work..

In order to get the UPGRADE PRICE for Snow Leopard ($29) you need to be running Leopard (10.5.X). Tiger users (10.4.XX) must purchase the FULL VERSION of Snow Leopard. I'm don't believe that Snow Leopard will be sold as a stand alone product. It has only been advertised as part of the mac box set which is $169.

The $10 price is only for mac users who have brought a mac since July '09.

Note, all prices are in US$.

You say Snow Leopard in the box set? Maybe thats just the US store, because in canada, the box set comes with Leopard, not SL.

It's all rather confusing - I thought there were three pricings for SL -

$10 if you bought hardware recently, pre-loaded with Leopard.

$29 if you bought your hardware a little while ago, but are running Leopard nonetheless.

Whatever the pricing is for the full version... I am unsure.

In Australia, we hadn't heard that SL would only be offered as part of a boxed set. Seems strange - what if you already have iWork and/or iLife?

^ Australian prices are not confirmed yet, except for the Mac up-to-date price of AU$14.95 for upgrades if you bought hardware since June 8th.

General consensus is that the Leopard -> Snow Leopard upgrade will cost AU $39.

They'll probably be releasing iLife '10 and iWork '10 as well, which they may include with the SL update.

Update***** At least in Canada, they are selling the Mac Box Set with SL, and Iwork and Ilife 09. It is $199, so its even cheaper than Leopard Box Set was :)

You can also buy just SL, for $35. Seems like apple is really dropping their prices to be even more competitive.

I know... I was planning on buying the Mac Box Set, the $35 Upgrade is for Leopard users.......
