I bought my laptop a couple of months ago while working during the summer - I already had a PC and The Sims 2 games. The PC was starting to fail since I had had it for a couple of years and I figured I needed an update if I was to keep up with The Sims 2 expansion packs, and thus I got a laptop.
I don't know the exact specs but it has 160GB hard drive, 3GB Ram memory. I thought that this would be enough to support Sims 2 and I still believe it is. The laptop is a Dell Inspiron 1525 and I spent close to £700 on it.
When I go to install Sims 2 on my laptop (this is Windows Vista now) a pop-up comes up (they come up all the time!) and told me that The Sims 2 has known compatability issues with this version of Windows. As annoying as Vista is though, I don't want to go back to XP. The EA Games site doesn't help either, I have done everything it told me to do.
It also happened when I tried to install The Movies game. The first time it happened with Sims 2 I assumed it was the integrated graphics card, but I don't believe that now.
Does anyone know what I can do?
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Is the only error that it has known compatibility issues with the version of Windows? I see you have Vista, and I know at least one person who plays Sims on Vista. I personally play on XP.

Can you give any more specifics about the error or the system? I was able to install on my laptop, but there was an issue with the specific model of the laptop even though I picked every option available to enhance my gaming experience and those options were sure to mention they were good for gaming

. Laptops in general seem to have trouble with some video games.

Yes, that's the only error.

And that's why it bugs me - I bought the bloody thing hoping it would run my game a lot more smoothly and it doesn't play at all. Lucky I just use it to illustrate my stories.

Well I have ignored the warning but when I loaded the game it crashed after a few minutes. Perhaps my laptop can't play it but I always assumed it was the compatability issue because of the warning.
So I guess I have no clue.

That's odd, I have the 14" version of that laptop with Vista and the Sims 2 works well. Maybe your video drivers (Intel or Nvidia) aren't up-to date?

My friends laptop plays it as well. I think I checked for a driver update and there wasn't one.
How do I find a driver update?

I believe to find a driver update you check the product manufacturer's website.

It runs very poorly on my Dell inspiron 1525 I bought in June (with Vista) everything else I have runs fine and I rather suspect that The Sims 3 will run fine on it, but theirs just something about that one program. It stalls on loading screens about 40% of the time, but once I'm in a house, etc. it runs fine.

Well it's been stalling on loading screens on mine the entire time. I can get in to make a family but when I click "done" it locks on that loading screen, and if it gets past that screen it locks on the moving in screen...
I want Sims 3 to work fine on it, but I doubt it will for some reason...

I'll check for a driver update see if it makes a difference... Thanks

I can't imagine, if Sims 2 is having trouble, that Sims 3 will work fine. I don't know much about the requirements for 3 because I have absolutely no intention of getting it. So, I can't say much about it.

As for the locking, I'm wondering if that is your laptop or an in game issue.

Well, I have been looking at Sims 3 and no System requirements have been shown yet, so won't know until then.

It doesn't matter I still have my slow chug-along PC. I want to get a new desktop that will be able to play Hi-Def games now, what would you recommend and how much is it likely to cost me?

Try the Intel Drivers from http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=2800&lang=eng

I'm pretty sure that the Dell 1525 has that chipset, but you should double check. The Mobile Intel® 965 Express Chipset Family has a x3100 graphics accelerator.

Also someone on another forum said it might help to put Sims 2 on your firewall's exceptions list. http://vistax64.com/vista-games/40120-sims-2-a.html

I had to add spaces and take out the http:// because I have fewer than 25 posts. Annoying.

Thanks for those links and thanks for fixing them! :D
I'm downloading some driver updates - hopefully this'll help.
