Singer Confirms Superman Sequel

Superman Returns director Bryan Singer told Empire Online that he has begun work on a proposed sequel, expected to be called Superman: Man of Steel.

That partly confirms a rumor previously reported by IESB.net that Singer would re-up for the sequel. The other rumor, still unconfirmed, is that Transformers writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman would write the script, taking over the franchise from Superman Returns scribes Dan Harris and Michael Dougherty.

"Yes, I'm just getting back with writers after the strike," Singer told Empire. "We're just in the development phase. I'm starting to develop a sequel ... with the intention of directing it."

Singer is aware of criticism about his earlier effort, which some said lacked enough action. "The first one was a romantic film and a nostalgic film," he said. "I'll be the first person to own up to that without making any apologies for it. I knew it was going to be that from the outset. And now that the characters are established, there's really an opportunity to up the threat levels. ... Clearly there'll be a body count [laughs]. From frame one, it will be unrelenting terror! All those teenage girls who found the movie and mooned over James Marsden or Brandon [Routh]? Well, I'm going to wake them up!"

Singer had already signed on to do the Superman movie when Fox decided they wanted another X-Men film. Apparently Superman has been his DREAM movie, and wanted to do it way more than the X-Men films. Anyway, long story short--he couldn't do X-Men 3 on the timetable FOX wanted because he was already obligated to Superman. He said he'd be willing to do it if they waited, but they didn't.

Thus, we have the disaster that was X3.

X3 wasn't that bad...... If you only watched the end and judged from that.

Superman was pretty good, although Superman having a kid wasn't what I was looking for, albeit it was a good plot twist.

As I've said before, with this, I'll probably wait for reviews from you guys to decide whether or not to see it.

I'm sure I'm re-hashing an old ass argument here, but X3 was pretty bad. I really wish Bryan would've stuck with XMen.......

I loved Superman Returns. Such an awesome movie. Spacey as Lex was perfect!!

I, for one, can't wait to see how this movie turns out (if they go through with it). I loved the first, especially Brandon Routh and Kevin Spacey. I wonder who the antagonist is going to be--perhaps Luthor, perhaps not? IDK, I kinda wanna see Superman take on Darkseid and the forces of Apokalypse.

i liked it myself but i'll be the first to admit that it was flawed. i'm hoping that singer takes those flaws to heart and will make a more entertaining feature.

It was OK. Not my favorite comic book movie.

As for the "Villain", I read somewhere that there was supposed to be an "alien" involved. I'll try and find that article. Take that with a grain of salt though.

well I heard from a friend superman returns sucked, but I kind of liked it the kid shit was kind of stupid and lois lane looked to young. but singer did do the same thing with xmen the first one sucked ass really bad but when he did xmen2 it was the shit so hopfully he does the same with the new superman
