Anyone know any good youtube videos or articles on skin care?

What's the best thing for your face?

What should you do when you have a pimple? (there seems to be trapped oil thing/ black heads then the red infected puss thing, and I'm probably missing something) There must be instructions somewhere on what to do for each encounter.

The gold standard is using a gentle cleanser, followed by a salicylic acid product, followed by a benzoyl peroxide product.

I strongly believe Paula Begoun makes the best products for this:

www.paulaschoice.com

She also has reviewed over 45,000 products, including all the acne products on the market, and has objective, evidence based reviews of all of them for free here:

I second this. Paula has a great line of products, and even recomends great products from other lines.

Definately check out the "Learn" tab on PaulaChoice.com, and the "best Product" category on Beautipedia. Both will provide great information on acne control.

Are you talking about one pimple every now and then or do you have acne?

If it's just the odd pimple you can get creams that help dry up the pimple (usually called "spot treatment" or something similar). You can also just apply some alcohol to it several times a day until it dries up.
Never attempt to pop it unless it's a full blown whitehead! If you're gonna pop it, start by sterilizing the area with some alcohol. Using tissue so your fingers aren't directly touching your face, apply inwards pressure to the surrounding area with your index fingers. If it doesn't pop easily then abort, forcing it to pop will only make it more unsightly and can lead to scarring.

If it's acne you have, go see a dermatologist. I had been fighting acne for years when I went to a dermatologist who fixed me all up. My skin is 100% clear now, so worth every cent!

Also, this website is a great skincare resource and the message board is very active:

i have a problem too!

i dont really have acne but i get pimples every now and then. and i have some questions...?

should i pop them?

what products work best when you really dont have acne?

and what products wont dry out my skin?

thanks guys!

just wanted to mention that using regular Dove soap, can help people who's skin is continuing to react from the soaps and forming pimples. another issue is too much scrubbing which inflames skin and easily leads to the pores closing and forming pimples.

the active ingredient in proactive is benzyl peroxide, if you can buy this over the counter it should be just as effecive, however proactive works better for the main reason that people pay lots of money for it, and it comes in a very convenient kit to use, buying just the active ingredient does not do this.

if the pimple is ready to pop, then you can pop it, use the tissues like the other poster mentioned, this is also good cause it prevents you from causing damage to your face from the finger tails. never try to force it when its not ready (and no that is not what she said), because there is the potential the pimple can pop DOWNWARD into the lower layers of the skin. i did this once a while back, it was bad, i had a deep tissue infection and when my doctor wouldnt see me fast enough i performed my own procedure to remove the infection. im a medical professional so i knew what i was doing and would not recommend that others follow my example.

alcohol isopropyl 70% will work through the day to remove the oil, however it can dry out your skin. i have used it on my skin for years, no problem but it can smell bad immediatly. i now get compliments because my face is actually not dried out, instead it appears younger with clear skin because of this. everyone's skin reacts differently, and there is no general solution. this is probalby why people find such difficulty in finding the right product.
