skin discoloration after jock itch

hey guys, so when i went to college i decided to start going to the gym at the rec center they have. after about a month i got jock itch in my groin area and then it spread to my anus. it wasn't red and it didn't have raised edges but it did have this gnarly odor and was dark (I'm Hispanic and pretty tan, so the discoloration was like a brown). Not to mention it itched like a mofo. But anyway, i used a combo of Zeasorb anti-fungal powder, Lotrimin ointment and a jock itch shower body wash.

after like 3 months or so, the itching and smell stopped and it seemed like it went away (this was around March of this year). however the dark discoloration is still there, only in my groin, not my anus. the size of the area seems to have shrunk but it didn't go away. i continued using the powder and the soap but I still have it.

Anyone have something like this or know what it is or something? Anything you could tell me would help. Thanks!

Sounds like it could be hyperpigmentation. This can result from damage or an injury to the skin (your rash). There are treatments, but they should be discussed with a dermatologist..

The interesting thing is that tinea cruris and tinea versicolor tend to cause loss of pigmentation in the skin.

When there's hyperpigmentation, it's more of a reaction of the skin to the fungal infection. It may persist after you've addressed the infection.

You do need to see a dermatologist to determine what is causing the hyperpigmentation. There are ways to address the pigmentation but you will need to have a physician examine the area.

thanks for the info!

i was looking online for more in-depth stuff, and i found that it's not a harmful condition, and personally i don't think it's visually unappealing.

next time i get a check-up i'll have the doctor take a look at it.....i'm a little stubborn when it comes to the doctor, hahaa

nah cielo, I actually haven't been to the doctor in about a year, since before i started college last year. i think i'm overdo! haha

random but i like your avatar haha

This thread is old but I thought I would update in case anyone is looking for info.

I recently had a physical and had my doctor check out the affected area. I was told that hyperpigmentation sometimes occurs as a normal reaction after the healing of tinea cruris. The infection is definitely gone though. Personally, as long as it's not detrimental to my health, then I'm good, but if anyone has had this and wants to get rid of the discoloration, then talk with your doctor, there must be some treatment.

After I resolved jock itch with over the counter cream, I had darkened discolouration. It eventually went away, but that took quite awhile.

I found jock itch to be recurrent for awhile, but I take an odourless garlic supplement daily and find that it wards off both jock itch and athlete's foot quite nicely.
