i had always sleeping problems, but in the last 3 years it got worse!
i go to bed at 3 a.m or so and cant sleep for a long time, then i wake up many times in my sleep, and i cant sleep again.i manage to do that after 30 mins every time or so.
and when i wake up in the night i have persistant thoughts, stupid thoughts that make no sence! and ofcourse my whole body hurts all the time when i wake up.
and im a wreck in the morning.im sure its getting worse by the eams ,cos i have exams the lasy 3 months, but its bad even without them....

I'm in the same boat.

But mainly it comes from having nothing to do during the day.

I'll be up until 4-5ish and it'll take me another 45 mins to actually get to sleep.

If I wake for some reason I'm up until I crash.

I do find I get to bed earlier and sleep better on the days I exercise and/or have a nice romp in the sack.

Hey Kurt-
If you've got insurance, there are a bunch of sleeping disorder clinics out there. You go there to spend the night, and they monitor things and do tests.

Of course, no drugs, caffeine, etc.

Just a thought.

no i dont do drugs or caffeine...
i have no money for those clinics if and i dont know if i have an insurance,i ll try to check it out!

thank you man!

what always works for me when my sleeping rhythm is out of order:

do something exhausting like swimming .. just 1-1.5 hours a day. swim like 1.5-2km for example. or just go running outside .. whatever you like.
only sleep for 4 hours - 3 days in a row. set an alarm clock to not sleep more.
after those 3 days i can adjust to any new sleep pattern (my usual sleep pattern is: to bed between 1-3, up between 7-10)

I have the same problem. You should definately see a doctor. I recently started taking trazodone at night, now I'm out like a rock for 9 hours.

my sleep patterns have been screwed up for years, some nights I sleep fine , others i am awake until 2, 3am (and have been known to go for days without sleep......literally, not so much as a nap!)

you should go to your doctor and see if there is a mineral deficiency or something, try to avoid sleeping pills if you can as over long periods they can have side affects, try herbal ones if you can

Try taking some Melatonin about an hour before bed. It's available over the counter at many drugstores, usually in 3mg tablets. Start with just a small amount, say, one half of a 3mg tablet. If that doesn't help, try a whole tablet the next night.

Another good sleep aid is Tryptophan, an amino acid that can also be bought at drug or vitamin stores. One or two 500mg tablets before bed can help promote sleep. It's also sold in a slightly different form as 5-hydroxytryptophan or 5-HTP.

If this still doesn't help, try taking an antihistamine like Benadryl before bed. This is a safe and cheap drug that promotes sleep in most people.

If, after all this, you still have trouble sleeping, then you may need to see your doctor and move up to prescription strength sleep aids. Sometimes a sedating antidepressant like Trazodone or Remeron can normalize sleep patterns.

You mentioned that you've "always" had sleeping problems. Was this true even when you were a young child? Were you ever diagnosed with, or do you think you might have, ADD or ADHD?
