Keep your hands off it and keep it clean. If it persists you might want to try an over-the-counter cold sore remedy. If it still persists, go to the doctor.
 
Is it in a place where you normally shave? If it is, It may just be irritation. I've recently startyed getting them again(for me it's stress related) because my razor irritates the area.
 
Absolutely sure? Nope. I'm not a physician. It is a possibility. I should also add, make sure you wash your hands before touching you genitals. Just to be on the safe side.

Also, if you're prone to irritation from shaving or light acne, I suggest washing ones face with Hibiclens in the morning and in the evening. Or at least before shaving. I find it almost eliminates, for me, shaving bumps and acne.
 
if it gets a head to it it's a in grown hair or a zit. no head it may be a cold sore. if you can go see a dermatologist. it may just be something like ingrown hairs but when ever you get them you will be scared it's herpes so why not have peace of mind and have it checked out? i am also very herpes scared-or i was when i was whoring it up before the bf-i always looked at guys mouths and cocks to see if i could see anything. i know i slept with guys who have it but did not have a break out at the time. have you been with anyone who you have heard has it?i'm 33 now and have had 3 cold sores in my whole life. people get cold sores. it's not the end of the world.my doctor told me mine was just the run of the mill cold sore but i think all cold sores are a form of herpes.i did not have a test done and i think the dr can tell by just looking at them what's up. they see this stuff all the time. like i said i understand your fear but no one hear can truely give you the peace of mind that a doctor can. do you get them on your chest, arms, upper legs, near under arms? (in addition to face?)

i have all kinds of fun skin issues - it is a form of dermititis ... they look like zits - red and a little painful to touch - and run their course in about a week .. maybe a couple breaking out here and there ... come in cycles?

there are some derm. ointments/gels you can use but it's not herpes
 
Yes, go see a doctor. If you are worried about it, seeing a doctor would ease your mind. Isn't peace of mind, worth the price of a doctor's visit?
 
seeing a dr. is up to you ... but as is the case with most derm. conditions, there's little that can be done to cure/treat the underlying causes ... they can only give you stuff (topical gels and ointments) to treat the break-outs
