Okay, judging by this thread and others, I'm beginning to feel as if me trying to get my point across isn't doing much good. I cannot speak on behalf of telemarketers, since I've never been one. However, I do know how they feel, since I am treated like one.
Basically, if somebody is calling for a survey or donations, and if they ask for you by name, then let them know that they are speaking to who they want to. And after they say what they're calling for, say "Sorry, I'm not interested, thank you. Can you take me off your call list?" This usually should usually work. That's how it was done where I worked. It may not completely get rid of calls, but I think you have a better chance. But has anyone considered actually doing a survey? Even if it takes 5 minutes? It can't be that bad, and it’ll help whatever the cause may be.
I know what calling is like because I've done it, and I hate the feeling of people yelling and getting upset and taking it out on me as if I'm the one who runs the business or corporation. We the callers are more than likely on the lowest rung of the ladder in these organizations. So the next time you get a surveyor or donation seeker, I'm not even asking you to be nice. I'm simply asking you to consider it.
