So, definitely still going to insist total condom use for my fb, but hypothetically if I did talk
him into getting tested, and he came up negative, and so did I, is bareback still risky? Like
would there be any chance either of us are infected with something that tests could miss?
I'd love to let him bust in me, swallow him, but is it better to not no matter what?

Up to you and your fuck bud.

HIV won't show up on tests before 12 weeks of being infected. So as long as you two aren't fucking anybody else bareback you should be fine.

He should be tested for the other STDs as well. Other than that, the risk is that one of you will have sex outside the relationship without telling the other, or have done so in the last 3 months, too recent to show in the test.

Do you feel lucky punk?

Once totally tested 100% depends on your confidence that your partner is not gonna seek greener pastures during your relationship.

There's a difference between being in a committed relationship and just being fuckbuddies. Fuckbuddies and Friends With Benefits have no obligation to monogamy or exclusivity.

Unless you've both made a commitment to monogamy, then it's no different than having sex with a stranger (and everyone they've had sex with on the side).

Here the tests are all combined, so every time you go to the health clinic you get a free bill of health for HIV, Syphilis, Hep B and Hep C. But there is the whole three months immunological window deal. I'd only do it without worrying if I was in a relationship and tested twice.

I am a bit surprised that none of you come up with the answer, "Prep" or "Truvada".

If all you worry about is HIV, Truvada is the best solution right now. I have 2 friends are taking it and they do all the bareback they want and all go to neg. It was guarantee up to 99.7%, pretty high guarantee, higher than having unsafe sex with your own husband. Why bother if someone you with told you if he was tested or NOT.. People could lie you know. Protect yourself, Be smart....

Like someone mention above, HIV is not all you should worry, STD has others as well, be cautious of who you with also and that would help, I think.

Of course, why I was unspecific. Hope to talk him into at least taking the 4-panel test

sounds more like this "Prep" or "Truvada" render HIV nondetectable rather than negative, because nothing as of yet can remove the virus, but merely keep it down. I think that's probably why no one has mentioned it.

Well, a condom is about .75 cents US. Truvada is still over $1,000 a month unless you have a generous insurance plan.

A condom seems a more practical option for NSA fuckbuddies.

The key piece of that sentence is in bold. The guidelines for PrEP still recommend condoms.

The early 2014 surveillance reports from the CDC are already showing significant increases in STDs and in particular, drug-resistant gonorrhea in men who have sex with men.

Worth repeating.

Like any human action it has risks. Always accept the risk and folly gayly forward. I like that there is awareness about condom use and sexually transmitted diseases but the notion that one has to wear a condom is emotionally reactive to the AIDS crisis. If I broke down a statistical risk assessment of sex compared to a dozen other risky behaviors with comparable consequences I guarantee that the pressure to use a condom in many situations is absurd. For a hook-up, sure. For a trusted friend, probably not.

I use a condom because it smooths things out and makes the contact less rough.

You have to talk to your doctor. From what I know, Truvada/prep work as a shield. They prevent HIV virus attack the body... they have test over 500/700 people and they are come back negative.

I think the reason people don't mention it because they actually didn't know how Truvada works and never talk or discuss that issue to their doctors. Some might knows but don't bother to say...

PrEP means Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis. It is anti-HIV medication (Truvada) used to prevent a HIV- person from acquiring the HIV virus. The pill must be taken everyday to reach the efficacy level mentioned above. The medication prevents the HIV virus from duplicating itself inside the body.

Truvada is given to HIV+ (along with other medication) also to suppress the virus to "undetectable" levels. So, it's one medication doing double duty to fight HIV.

I've been taking Truvada as prEP for about nine months. I'm glad I made the decision to take this medication. I'm more relax now when hooking up, enjoying the sex more and don't worry like I used to about contracting the virus.

I don't have any side effects and it cost me $0.00. I have to get tested every three months and see my Infectious Disease doctor to get my prescriptions renewed. I get tested every three months anyways, so it's no big inconvenience.

It is worth repeating this post...

...that the reader may appreciate there is an enormous risk attached to not using a condom.
