Cant believe it, 41 years in Seattle, but Clay Bennet wanted a team in his OKC so he just swooped down and took the Sonics... :(

I dont get it, King County (which is where Seattle is) is like the 14th largest county by population in the country and is almost triple that of Oklahoma County (which is where OKC is), so if the owners were so worried about the populace supporting a team and making money then why the hell would they move to OKC.:confused:](*,)](*,)

The NBA and David Stern are a joke.
 
i have to admit i am disappointed to see the sonics leave seattle but i'm not too surprised.

as for okc you can blame that on katrina. when they welcomed the hornets last season it showed that they were very interested in having a team. i guess we'll see if they can sustain them.
 
OKC has been trying to get a pro team in something for awhile. It is Seattles fault for not getting the Sonics out of that garbage arena. I guess too much money was spent of Safeco...
 
Ever been to key arena? It isnt garbage. It just isnt big enough to make Stern happy.

Key Arena was opened in '95, its not a problem. It was an excuse for Bennet to steal the team.
 
It seems as if they're gonna be called the Oklahome City Thunder.

It's going to be odd with Seattle not having the Sonics. I do hope they get a new franchise in there soon.

I'm a Utah Jazz fan... I live in SLC. Spent a couple of years in Seattle though... I hate to see a city loose a team that has been there so long.
Now OKC will take Seattles places in the in the NW Division in the Western conference of the NBA.... WTF? OKC in the West?

Cannot blame the owners though, they have to go where the money is.. dont' know why the owner couldn't come up with an arrangement to finace the new arena without so much coming from the taxpayers.
A few years ago here in SLC the owner of the Jazz figured it out... got it done.
I wouldn't blame Stern nor the NBA man.... I figure it's more the owners fault than Sterns.
Many times I've hated the Sonics over the past years cause they beat the Jazz.... but I hate to see a storied team, one with such a long tradition leave that city.
I love Seattle... a very great city.
And watching the Jazz play the Sonics up there will be something I will miss in future years.
I hope you guys get a new team soon.
And for now I will wish that the Jazz beat up on the new OKC team.... pound them, run up the score and just kill them in every game.

the good thing is that in the new rules the new team cannot take away the Sonics name with them... so when you guys get a new team they will still be the Sonics.
And that will be cool to watch the new Sonics against the Utah Jazz... :D
 
What exactly is the reasoning for the Sonics leaving Seattle? If it has to do with arena's that sounds very similar to the Hornets leaving Charlotte.
