South Park or The Simpsons

Hi Surge:wave:..not to go off topic but, Who is that lovely avatar of yours?

I used to like South Park a lot but then it got old. It's never portrayed gays in a good way, they use/encourage the word faggot, they really do just go for the shock factor and think something is funny just because it's very violent or very offensive.

meep. i believe you need to watch a few southpark episodes. i hope that you are not talking about the homphobia that mr/mrs garrison shows, since it is part of the joke. mr garrison hates gays but then realizes that he IS gay, then has trouble coming out and fights homphobia, then he realizes that he is a woman, becomes a woman and hates gays again. and then he becomes gay again and now is a lesbian ;)

a very cliche gay character which is used more often is "big gay al". parents freaked out when he became the boy scout leader and had him replaced by an army general. who took nude pics of the kids. later on the parents had to see that their homophobia was wrong. you might also watch the "two guys naked in a hot tub" were two of the fathers watched each other masturbating in the hot tub, and fear that they could be gay and what the others might be thinking:

Gerald: Everybody doesn't know. And why are you so ashamed of me?
Randy: What's happened to you?! You've become all needy and talkative and-!
Gerald: I just want to know it meant something to you.
Randy: It didn't mean anything to me, Gerry! [the music stops] All we did was watch each other masturbate in the hot tub! [people turn and stare. One man gasps and Sharon lifts her head from the floor]
Man in briefs: Aw, I was just in the hot tub. [a man next to him pulls away]
Randy: Yeah! Yeah, it's true! I thought it would be exciting, and maybe it was, but I can't deal with your accusing stares! [shots of various people looking at him] We watched each other jack off in the hot tub! There! We did it! I'm not proud of it, but there it is!
Mackey: Uh. Well, it's not like you're the only guy who's ever watched another guy masturbate; I've done it.
Ned: Mmm-me too. [other men begin to answer]
Man 1: Yeah, uh I've done it a few times.
Man 2: Yep.
Man 3: Yup.
Man 4: Uh huh.
Man 5: Me too.
Man 6: Myeup, me too.
Man 7: Yup.

or just the episode on "metrosexuals".

Family Guy makes fun of everyone including gays but they do it in a way that no one gets offended. It doesn't make homophobia look cool either.

I see your point.

And now, as BenBen asked, who's that on your avatar and siggies?

The thing about South Park is that it bases it comedy on shock value of current events. When the events are not so current and we've seen the same poop jokes over and over its not as funny anymore. that's not to say I dont like South Park, but I think to insult the world for comedy can only stay funny for so long.

The Simpson spoofes the american stereotypes and culture in general, focusing on their characters instead of always using current events for reference. Which sometimes works and sometimes doens't. But they are just a legendary family that cant be ignored. They are just fun. I think the simpsons opened the door for other 'cartoons for adults', but still mantains the charm it has been known for all these years.
