Hey I recently meet a new guy that um well its still very very early on as in days but we weer like "wanna do someting this weekend" and I was like "lets go somewhere" and joking around he responded "how about St. Louis". For some reason I said "St. Louis it is" and we decided what the hell and are flying out there tommarrow but just for the weekend.

So guys you are all very well traveled, what's there to do in St. Louis or the immediate surrounding area. Oh yea do they have a subway or will it be all taxi's?
Thanx in advance guys.

Well, since I have family there, I've been there. Huge Bosnian community, I know that..so if you like us..you'll have fun. :D

I live in/near the bosnian area, and let me tell you, I have never seen an unattractive young Bosnian man (or woman for that matter). I know there have to be some, but I'll be damned if they are ever present--maybe there's a curfew? They hang out in big groups, dressed well, and are usually gorgeous. I also like how family and friendship are obviously very important to them in the ways they gather and enjoy each other. I have yet to really meet any of them, but I love the energy they create in the area.

hey there. Im from st. louis....

There is no subway system but we do have the Metrolink - but it doesnt go all over the place. Taxi's may be a better idea... but you may have to call for them? dont expect to just find them driving all over looking for people...

Daytime things...

I would recomend checking out forest park. There is a great Free zoo - i think one of the few free zoos remaining in the U.S. There is also an art Muesuem...

You may also want to check out the Botanical Gardens... its a beautiful place.

If you are into nightlife - I would recomend The Complex on Saturday nights. It should be packed after 11 or 12.

Hope this helps some!

I was in St. Louis for a football game two weeks ago. The Arch, of course, is very interesting to go up in. Union Station is a good place for shopping and eating. The downtown area is quite compact so it's generally a short taxi ride to anyplace. Your hotel may have a shuttle van. There are a couple of riverboat casinos. I didn't get to a nightspot since I went to the game instead. Enjoy your weekend.

Depends on where you're staying, Bud. St. Louis has a fairly good bus/light rail system--the Metro. http://www.metrostlouis.org/ Taxi is not always convenient since a lot of things you might be interested in are probably going to be spread out. The semijoke around St. Louis is that you can get to anywhere in just twenty minutes, but a twenty minute cab ride might not be what you want.

When you get into town, see if you can find a Riverfront Times. It's the nightlife newspaper that lets you know what's going on locally. Greekfest is going on this weekend in the Central West End (http://www.stnicholas.missouri.goarch.org/GreekFest/default.htm). Central West End has the Coffee Cartel, a 24/7 hang out that's good for the treats and the people watching. The major street in CWE is Euclid, which runs parallel to Kingshighway and is only one block east.

If you're interested in seeing the sights, the Arch can be cool to go up in, but on Labor Day weekend might be a little too much wait and too little payoff. Forest Park has the Zoo which is very good and a History Museum and fantastic Art Museum. Also in/near Forest Park is the Science Center which is also pretty cool (and will have many families in attendance). Nearby there is also the Botanical Garden.

If you're interested in dance clubs or gay bars, there are any number of those as well. See if you can find a copy of EXP the local gay nightlife magazine. You can check out gaystlouis.com and click on GUIDE on the left side to find out more about those (or PM me if you want an opinion on them). If you're just looking for some good bars/eateries which an eclectic clientelle, check out the South Grand/Tower Grove area.

And if you're interested in something a little more gay and sexual in nature, there is Boxers and Briefs in Centreville, about twenty minutes from St. Louis on the Illinois side. It's a full nude male strip club and can be fun on the weekend. If your tastes run to the bisexual area, the IL side also has numerous female strip clubs nearby. And for the sexually adventurous, St. Louis has The Club, a gay "fitness club" where you check your clothes at the door, get a towel, and walk around to see "what's up." It's on North Jefferson Ave, one block over from Washington Avenue (not a great place to be at night though without a vehicle of your own, so if you go there, you'll want to call and secure a cab before you leave).

So, that might get you started. Feel free to private message me if you want to know more. Have a great time visiting! :)

Willow, you type faster than I do. lol Some good suggestions--we're on the same wavelength. Welcome to JUB, by the way, as a poster.

One thing you need to know about St Louis. Everything is pretty spread out and mass transit sucks. If you stay in the city, there are a lot of fairly cool things. Try the zoo, it's always a good time and they have a new baby elephant. The Science Center is ok, too.Be wary of tourist traps like Union Station and to a lesser extent, Laclede's Landing. There are also gambling boats all over the city and county. It really depends on where you are planning on staying and what kind of stuff you want to do.

One place that you should try is City Museum. It's sort of aimed at kids, but stays open late on Friday and Saturday. There's really nothing else like it anywhere.

Really, if you can rent a car. You can get around much easier and take in more sites. Driving directions aren't hard to come by from the locals. and as they say in st louis everything is 15 minutes away.

Must haves:

Lion's Choice
Ted Drewes
and Toasted Ravioli

Thanks..totally agree, but I'm biased hehe

I miss the good ole cevape (have them whenever I want, etc) but there is only one Bosnian place here in the city and its quiet far.

When I was there though, which was quiet awhile ago now, maybe 7 yrs or so, there was a lot of development going on.

Thanks guys, I'm leaving for the airport in about an Hour, luckily its only a 10 min drive from my house. Have a great weeked, I'll be back Sunday. I'm just gunna hope the weather holds out while i"m there.
