The PC version finally arrived in stores today, after multiple delays. the last one was that it was supposed to have been shipped and or arrived on dec 5. it didn't show up till today. none of the stores around me had it though. so i paid for it online at drive2drive and it's downloading now. I've never bought a game soley online before but we'll see.

was anyone else able to get it and if so what do you think? my download still has 10 hours to go! it's a 2.2 gb file and only downloading at about 70 KB/sec.

if you are wondering where on drive2drive it was here: http://www.direct2drive.com/2032/product/B...Legacy-Download

it's the same price as in the stores...although seems like it should be cheaper since you don't get the DVD or the book or box bla bla bla.

some one did upload a video of one of their battles here if you want to look at it: www.davidandpeta-gaye.com/legacy/EnterpriseNeg'Var.avi

it looks good.

i bought it today at EBgames. I like it so far, but i have some major issues with the interface/controls. they're very counter intuitive and take a lot of getting used to. I was hoping the patch that was just released would address that, but it didn't.

I can't stand the fact that pressing the F key sets a general course direction, yet HOLDING DOWN the F key brings up your action menu. It sucks b/c as soon as your done selecting the action from the menu and u let go of the F key, your ship automatically goes to full impulse in that direction! UGH!

i'm hacked off. it doesn't really run on my pc, which is:

intel celeron 2.70 ghz
2 gb ram
two 300 gb hard drives and a 160 gb drive,
256 MB NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 video card (i got friday after thanksgiving just so i could play the game, before i had a NVIDA GeForce 64 MB card)
windows XP pro SP2

it finished downloading this morning about 4 am and even with the graphics on low and no shadding at 800x600 resolution it's so jerky as to be completely unplayable. i move the mouse and 3-4 seconds later the camera will move, video is jerky, audio is fragmented.

i thought it had been announced that the minimum specs were well below what i had and that the recommended specs were right at what i have. so i don't know what to do. i don't know if its my crappy celeron processor or not.

i'm ordering a P4 3.4 today hope that will help

Hey Mike- how does it work with the download? Do you have to burn an ISO onto a DVD in order to play? I'm going to buy it tonight but I'll have to purchase a DVD player as well. Apparently it doesn't come on a CD-Rom version...but if you don't need to burn it to play with D2D, maybe I'll just download instead.

with drive2drive what i did (it was my first time doing it on drive2drive). it downloads a 2.2 GB zip file (it took about 10 hours last night and into this morning) that it saves to your hard drive. then it opens and uncompresses to your hard drive. then you run the install from that. no dvd or cd required. =) you get a cd key also but i didn't have to enter one, it went online when i first started the game and apparently activated the game that way.

but you don't get the box, a book, or a flashy dvd either.

after reading more issues on the legacy forum:http://startrek.bethsoft.com/forums/index.php?showforum=17

i'm not sure it's my proc. it might be my video card, but it might also be the game. i don't know. i didn't order the new proc yet. i'm just not sure what to do.

You have a really slow processor and an old video card. Replacing the vid card would help things the most, but you'll need to upgrade both in order for the game to run half decent.

the vid card is an older model, but i just got it 2 weeks ago to upgrade the Gefore 64 MB card i had so i could play this game. it more than meets the minimum requirements for the game, but i found out by reading the "readme" file that the card is not support.

That's not good...the card is actually really old and very slow, despite having 256 MB of ram.

Are you able to return it?

Yea mike, the video card is your problem. The model is over 4 years old, its way too old to support the game. The Celeron may be slowing you down too. Especially since this game was OBVIOUSLY designed specifically to run on the Xbox 360, and a PC version was just an afterthought.

That's my biggest complaint; STL for the PC is a crappy console version port. It wasn't made for the PC, rather it was made for Xbox and someone in accounting said hey we can rook in PC customers too, but we won't put any time effort or money into the PC interface, just let them be fucked.

It's DAMNED hard to control. Most keys are assigned to more than one function (a la console controller). And some keys do 3-4 things all at the same time, which makes things really fucked up.

Couple that with numerous other bugs, like the options settings being reset every time you restart the game (a la console behavior) and the graphics being neutered down from the Xbox version, you have one poorly converted Xbox console port of what should have been a really good star trek game. I can only hope they fix things with a patch.

well i got lucky. staples took back the Gefore 5200 and let me get a Radeon 9550 (256 MB AGP 8x). it's the best they had. the game plays now on all low settings. i'm getting about 40 fps where as before i was getting 7. so i gots a question...is the radeon 9550 ok and now i need to upgrad the proc? i see i can get a P4 3.4 for about 108 bucks. will that do it for me? thanks. i guess now this should be in the tech forum. lol

hum...guess he took it down. here is the thread. it has some more links. i think they said some are on youtube now.

ok...well i've tweaked the hell out of windows and i can get up to medium on visual detail and it's playing pretty good. the controls suck...really. they are not intuitive at all. and the damn camera should lock on target but it doesn't. i like it enough so far. i'm not sure it was worth the money i had to put into upgrading the vid card and then the game...but it's ok for the price of just the game i guess.

I held off on buying it...from what I've read, it's a disappointment. It's a dumbed-down console game ported to PC and was rushed. Controls aren't mapped properly, graphics aren't as they should be, bugs and glitches everywhere. Hopefully they'll patch it up and it'll be in better shape.

Well the graphics in the game are great if you know how to mod and tweak them, which i've done. So the graphics are ok now. Keep in mind tho i'm playing it on my homemade powerhouse. But the major problem is still the controls. Or lack there of. They're still shit. I'd upload some videos of my games, but that would take a lot of time lol. Plus they'd be about 12-18Mb.
