This should get you some idea.

1. Turn on your stereo to some dance song.
2. Crank the volume as loud as it will go.
3. Turn the lights off.
4. Pour yourself a drink.
5. Water it down a bit.
6. Charge yourself $8.
7. Sit on something uncomfortable.
8. Try to carry on a conversation.

...there. Now you've been to a club. :)

Actually, they can be fun. The music is something cool, and it's fun to people watch. Although there is an element of "meat market" going on, it's generally more just friendly chit-chat.

Lol .. well many many straight guys in straight clubs, especially if the straight guys come in a pack ... just hang around the bar.

Booring.

I like straight clubs because, usually, they have the better music. Go on the dancefloor and enjoy myself. Try to flirt a bit with the guys, only got to know one once though ;)

They're not going to hook up. Trust me. The things you see on tv, i.e., guys meeting random women left and right and taking them home for a fuck session is rare. They might try to hit on some girls. Maybe get on the dance floor and try to grind on them. Maybe even lure a couple over, depending on how good they look, and drink with them. But nothing to be intimidated about. I mean, girls are people. Sit back and chat with em if your friends bring em to drink. Whats the harm?

You'll be fine. Just kick back by the bar and keep the drinks coming. One of them, depending on how many go, will be on the same boat, i.e. hates dancing and doesnt know how to talk to women, and will hang with you. If they all go to dance, just do as the Romans do. Doesnt mean that you have to hook up/try to hook up with someone.

...who knows, after hanging out a bit at the bar you might meet a cute guy thats in the same exact situation you're in. I met a cute guy at a bar one time (im bi) while with my straight friends. I told him my situation and we were sly about it. When a buddy asked me if I knew the guy I was talking to, I told him we were just chatting about some bullshit. Nobody was the wiser, and me and that guy ended up hanging out a few times.

Hahaha, that's actually a fairly accurate description. Too funny.

Hey man, just relax. Go with the idea that you're out to have a good time with some friends. I mean, that IS the idea, right? You're with your buddies man, so just chill out and be yourself.

I used to get worried about junk like this when I was a bit younger, but now I just say "screw it". If you go into it worried and thinking it's gonna suck, it probably will. Keep a positive attitude and an open mind, and have some fun.

I guess you're gay so you're not into girls at all, but believe me, there are gonna be some guys to check out too. Just have to be careful doing it. I've been caught before and I covered with "that dude looked at me funny" or "I think I know that dude" and it worked.

And in my experience, most younger guys don't really do all that much "hooking up" at the club anyway. Alot of gawking and goofy crap, but it's not 'till they get a little older that they actually hook up for real. Just my experience though.

Relax man. Go have some fun.

It's not that bad. You'll get used to it quick. A little alcohol helps to loosen up as well. Just don't go overboard like I once did...

Question... Sorry for bumping this thread...

BUT...

How is the music at gay clubs? I live in Toronto, so the gay clubs should be poppin' when I turn 19. I know one gay club has a Madonnarama night, where they play Madonna songs the whole night. I think it happens twice a year, maybe more. I've never really been into the Eurobeats. I like feel-good pop music and oldies, but I doubt I can find any gay clubs with songs like that. I'm scared they're just gonna be playing Lil' Wayne, T.I., Rihanna, & Ne-Yo the whole night.

Pop-music, oldies, r'n'b and A LOT OF TECHNO & HOUSE ... that's what like 90% of the gay clubs play here.
thank god that there are a few but rare exceptions.

I'm a student, we're out a lot and all my mates are straight.

Clubs are fun, get drunk have a bit a dance and enjoy yourself.

Only been to two gay clubs here, and it's hardhouse/techno/gayish pop. Both have that video channel playing that plays those videos of pop/dance singers doing remixed version of their latest hits (although I lucked out to catch "It's Like That" by Jason Nevins/Run DMC last time I was there...).

yes those GAY parties do exist. granted you have to look around a bit for them.

I was in that exact same position two years ago. I'm not a fan of dancing (unless I am intoxicated), and I wasn't out to my friends when we went. I ended up hanging out with our DD the whole night, watching my friends have some fun. You'll probably find someone who won't be dancing that you can talk to, and new friends are never a bad thing.

This is not a perfect selection of music, but so much better than anything I have ever heard at a club. That is it, I am moving to Britain or Germany apparently. A country where I can appreciate at least some of the pop (I love The Kooks and The Fratellis).

Now if I can just find a club that will play Reel Big Fish :).

Not at that party, but at another one a 100km from here they play them or less than jake and the likes from time to time. I already "lured" another JUBber there with the promise that they play Flogging Molly - and they did ;) Maybe we soon will have a JUB meet there, lol :D I left you a comment with the URL ;)

It is official, I am moving to Germany. All I have to do is find a cushy Software Development job there, and learn German :).

What i do not understand is why is everyone calling it a "straight" club or a "straight" bar. A club or a bar to me is exactly what it is called a bar or a club. If it was an all gay bar then i would call it a gay bar. It would be like telling my friends " hey lets go to the straight mall and see that straight movie where that hot guy gets naked", and after that we can watch that straight football game!

I think it is because some people go to bars to hook-up, so there is an implication of sex there. At that point there becomes a stipulation of what kind of hook-ups people go to said bar/club for.

Does it really matter who I have sex with, it is still just sex? Gay sex does tend to be different than straight sex though, just as gay clubs tend to be different than straight clubs (From what I have seen, I don't exactly go clubbing much :) ).

There's really no such thing as "straight clubs". A gay club is called such because it caters to the GLBT community. I just call them nightclubs...and they are fun. Enjoy!
