So this one time I was walking with some friends around the perimeter of the Pink Party, which is the big Castro Street block-party the Saturday night before Pride parade Sunday. And out of the roiling mass of partyers comes this straight couple, kissing and walking at the same time. Before I could stop myself, a loud and disgusted "Eeew!" came out of me. The context was wrong, and it took me by surprise.

Well, the queen with whom they were travelling took issue with my ejaculation of disgust, and berated me (I think they were all three sheets to the wind, while I and my companions were all stone sober) for belittling his friends. I apologized for making the sound, but had to explain what it was that disgusted me.

See, these straight are always coming into the Castro; and I think that's great, it's a free country and I certainly wouldn't want to tell anybody that they can't go where they want and be who they are. HOWEVER, straight men travelling through the Castro always, and I mean always, attach themselves like limpets to their female companions so that none of us faggots will get the wrong idea about him. That pisses me off.

I don't mind straight people, so long as they don't act straight in public. I know it's unenlightened, and a double-standard, and I'm trying to open my heart and mind to them. But it's a tall order and it will take me some time.

Its definitely annoying to me. Pretty much anything straight and done for show in public bothers me. This is them "not parading around in public and acting straight". Uh, yeah, right.

Everytime I see it I am reminded what we are NOT supposed to do. So at some level, it always bothers me.

Well, straight or gay, seeing any couple getting into the heavy shit in public is a little off-putting. I don't mind seeing the occasional peck and things like that, but if I see a couple sitting on a bench in the middle of the mall going at it, it's just a little rude and disrespectful, in my opinion.

I ignore it, though. I mean it's not something that's gonna ruin my day or anything. But ya know? Take it home. Not everyone wants to see it and there are kids about.
