So, if anyone's wondering, apparently it's shingles. Usually those don't happen until you're in your 60s or 70s, but I always seem to get the fun medical shit.

So what did your doctor rx / dx for you to do for your "Shingles"?

I just ran across your thread and was about to tell you it sounded like shingles. Sorry to hear that. Are you ok?

Oh at least your lucky that it can be treated! good to hear it was detected early enough too.

When I was 17 I had a sensation like that on my RHS shoulder blade... thought nothing of it. Started to transform into a slightly burning sensation and then one moment just an almighty pain.

Turned out I slightly tore my muscle, 3 months of agony and 12 more months before it healed without any 'niggles'

I got those when I was really little.
I don't remember much but from what I do remember, once you get them, you probably won't get them again. Could be wrong, I've never looked into it, but that's what I remember being told. Kinda like chicken pox. So it's best to get them now than when you're elderly.

Just saw this thread. Oh God! Shingles. I had shingles once and from your post that is what came to mind. Believe me I know how it feels. I hope it won't be too bad for you.

For anyone reading this who hasn't had shingles, there is a vaccine available. You do not want to get shingles, trust me on this.

How are you doing Ashy?

Shingles is a reactivation of herpes zoster- the virus that causes chickenpox. Even though you might have had a mild case of chickenpox as a kid, it can come back as a painful case of shingles later in life.

Shingles can occur spontaneously in elderly people and it travels along a nerve tract. It seems to have an affinity for following nerve tracts that run from the spine to the back, side and abdomen. It can be a problem if it affects the nerves around the eye.

We also see a lot of cases when younger people are under stress. I see quite a few college students with shingles during finals. :)

For children, there's now a chickenpox immunization that they receive as children.

For adults, there's a shingles immunization that you can get after age 50. It lasts for about 6 years, so it needs to be repeated in your 60s.

About an hour ago I felt some itching on the back of my head that didn't go away with scratching, thought a shower would relieve the pain. While showering I noticed a rash on my back, after I got out and looked into the mirror, I noticed I got shingles for the second time in my life...

...gonna call the doctor tomorrow :/

That's the lie about chickenpox. Once you had chickenpox, you'll never get that illness again, but the virus is dormant in your body and can break out anytime with its other illness that is shingles.
