On ABC, there is a tv show called 'The Parent Test'. It explores various parenting styles (free range, helicopter, traditional, etc)

They test kids in various situations based on how they are being raised.

In 'Stanger Danger', a unfamiliar person approaches the child with puppies. The test is to see if the child will go with the stranger adult.

The question for this thread is "how would you have reacted if a stranger approached you and they asked you to "come see the puppies" What would your younger self have done?



I would have gone to see the puppies. My parents never discussed stranger danger with me. I would have been a statistic (a dead kid).

I don't have to guess. It happened to me when I was around seven. My brother stopped me from getting into their van.

The danger for me was inside my house so I would have been happy to go with a stranger or anyone who would take me out of there.

When I was maybe eleven or twelve I was playing in an abandoned old sawmill with my friend Aaron. There was a small wooded area behind it. This man appeared and asked us if we wanted to try some wrestling moves. We went into the woods where he, of course, assumed the top position, but instead of placing his hand around my abdomen he stuck it in my pants. I remember thinking this is how you wrestle? He never got to touch the goods, but not for lack of trying. His hand was way down there.

I assume he did the same to Aaron, but we didn't discuss it.

So yes, not only did I encounter a creepy stranger, I was half-molested too!

When I was a child if anyone had offered to show me puppies, I would've gone anywhere with them.

No doubt I would've ended up buried in a shallow grave in the woods.

Fortunately, I was an ugly little fucker as a kid and therefore perfectly safe from the paedos.

Lived close to my grammar school. The Janitor as they were called back in the day was Charlie.

Charlie the custodian now. He looked a bit like Mr. Clean. Bald head very shiney and dressed in white pants and tshirt. I remember him being not all that good looking but a nice smile and gentle manner.

Anyhoo. I was maybe 9-10 years old. I would ride my bike around the school grounds and stop and talk to Charlie once in a while.

Not sure how it started but the Gym entry had a ramp so I drove my bike partly into the Gym to talk to him. Well he let me ride my bike into the Gym and the first floor of the school as well.

I remember leaving tire marks on freshly mopped floor but Charlie would mop up after me.I did this several times per week. Never did anything inappropriate to me at all.

He certainly could have. I remember following him into the boiler room basement and it looking scary. I can't help but wonder if he was just a nice guy or maybe something more nefarious that he never acted on.

I can't remember ever being warned by my mother about strangers and I'm sure that I would always have been tempted by puppies, but it never happened.

I had no idea what was going on. It wasn't traumatizing in the least. I actually thought that was the correct hand placement for wrestlers. It wasn't until decades later when I recalled the incident that I realized what had been going on.

So although he never sexually molested me, the sad truth is that my own father probably caused me more lasting harm than an encounter with a pedophile!
