How many of you have heard this, and is it true?

"Jerking off saps your energy so don't play with yourself before a sporting event."

Is it a myth or is there concrete scientific evidence to support this?
Personally, whenever I "abstain" (usually only for a few hours, lol) I do feel more energetic, BUT there is a part of my brain that tell me that this is bullshit. Recently, Sly Stallone said the smame exact thing regarding sex.

Stretching before working out prevents injury. But about a year ago, I heard on the news that a "study" proved this incorrect. Naturally, I swear by stretching and I often injure myself when I do not stretch. So, as far as I am concerned, the so-called scientists in this case are stupid. No?

People feel it saps your energy because it makes you tired and relaxed. This is true because ejaculation/orgasm is a parasypathetic bodily function. Parasympathetic functions/processes also known as autonomic processes such as digestion cause relaxation in the body.

So if you jerk off, you'll 'lose energy' because you'll feel relaxed.
 
The jerking thing is partly true. If you do it right before a sporting event or something you need energy for you're more likely to be tired than if you hadn't. As long as you give yourself some time to recover from your jerking, something like 90min I think it is, than supposedly you'll be fine.

No they're not stupid. They're not saying you shouldn't prepare your body before doing a workout. What they're saying is that stretching isn't the best way to go. It's counterproductive before doing a workout aimed at contracting the muscles.

You need to do warm up exercises before and stretching after.
 
I've noticed that if I jack off the night before I go to gym, I feel very weak and can't last very long during the workout session. If I don't jack off for say three nights, I feel I have more energy for sport.
 
Interesting experience TomahawkEagle. I work out daily on Bowflex for approx one hour, working many muscle groups. Jerking the night before doesn't seem to effect my stamina or performance , & I'm one constant whacker. I often jerk 2-3 times a day. Jeking makes me feel alive & balanced in the long run. Id say for me my workouts are better for it [providing I rest a few hours or more before workout].

Define "before".

If you're doing it in the locker room before stepping out into the arena then maybe yes, but the night before is hardly going to have any debilitating effect (at least for most of us).

I think a sports coach might advise his team to avoid sex before a game, but I think the rationale is more to avoid stressing yourself with any drama associated with a relationship (ie: teenage girls) rather than the actual ejaculation.

Maybe charting it would help, no joke. See what a brief documentation of jack/workout history would reveal. Just make sure you don't vary activities or diet to radically so your body is is functioning under equal parameters.

That's why I "try" not to wank the night before a working day. When I do jack off at the end of the week, the volume of cum is intense.
 
about the stretching one. there are two types of stretching - static and dynamic. (static = stretching out and holding the position, dynamic = "bouncing" in and out of the stretch position) it's not good to do static stretching before exercising - you should do dynamic in that case to warm the muscles up to contracting and loosening and stretching while contracted. that prevents injury, not like you are going to get injured if you do static stretching then exercise, but that's what the scientists are referencing. our coach always made us do dynamic stretching before working out, then static stretching after to improve flexibility and to get blood/oxygen flow to our muscles again.
 
I believe it's been shown in several scientific studies that stretching doesn't reduce injuries. In fact, stretching beforehand can loosen things resulting in a higher risk for certain kinds of injuries. Most will agree that stretching afterwards will make you feel less sore the next day though.
 
Jacking off does sap a bit of your energy (take effort to do it right), but I think nutrition and eating habits affect your stamina more than your mastubation habits. If you jack off all the time, yeah, you won't get anything done on the field, but I think jacking off before a match is more beneficial than harmful (you can focus more on the game rather than your aching hardon).

Also, stretching is good, as long as you do them right. Some people do stretches the wrong way, which does not help at all, and could possibly lead to even worse injuries.
