Guys, I'm scared. About a week and a half ago I noticed that there was a small section of my penis at the base on the side that felt like it had lost feeling, almost numb. I didn't think a lot of it, I figured it would go away. It persisted until yesterday when I noticed that much of my entire penis felt much less sensitive than normal other than the head, and I couldn't even get off, partly because of worrying and partly because of the feeling.

Now, today, I feel like I've completely lost my sex drive and I can't get an erection at all. I don't know if it's partly to do with the worrying and pressure I was under trying to make it "happen" but absolutely nothing was happening. I haven't felt horny at all today and I don't think anything would get me aroused. The thing is that this is very out of the normal for me. I tend to masturbate at least once a day and now it's been 2 days and I don't even feel the urge. I feel like I've been neutered or something.

I'm only in my early 20's and I'm not sexually active... I don't feel any different in any other way, other than being under slightly more stress than usual, but stress is nothing I'm not used to. Right now I'm terrified with visions of being a eunuch for the rest of my life.

Does this sound like something normal? What should I do?

Are you taking any medication? As with any other change with your body that is worrisome, see a doctor if symptoms persist.

Normal is relative, but as you've just explained, it is absolutely not normal for you.

I'd skip making an appointment with a family doctor and go straight to the ER. Loss of physical sensation is a primary indication of something being very wrong.

All you have to tell the admitting staff is that you have a serious issue concerning loss of physical sensation in a part of your body. If they press you, just tell them it is personal and you want to speak to a male doctor. Don't leave until you get seen.

No male doctor in the universe would question you for going to the ER for something like that. Hell, they will probably bump you ahead of a pregnant lady that got hit by a bus. ;)

And please get back to us with whatever they find out. Your post may help somebody else in the future. (*8*)

Assuming that you're not on medications that have this side effect (like anti-depressants, for example), then you need to make an appointment with your physician for an exam.

:(

I posted that last night before I went to sleep and the problem hasn't gone away this morning. On the upside either the "loss of sensation" is not as bad as it was, or I was exaggerating it in my head, because it doesn't seem abnormal today, however I still can't get an erection and my libido is a solid zero. I used to be able to easily get aroused just by watching porn or even just mental thoughts and now it's just not happening no matter what. No, I'm not on any medication or doing any types of drugs, I have no idea what could have caused something like this especially since it was a sudden occurrence. I did have a similar reaction when I was on an anti-depressant but this was years ago and it went away after I stopped taking it, not to mention happens to nearly everyone that takes it. My sex drive feels like it's at a solid zero and this has never ever happened before other than when I was on those meds in the past.

I'm wondering.. I have a bad habit of holding my urine in when I have to go, even when I really need to I can do it until the urge goes away sometimes. I know this is horrible and I don't do it all the time, but If I remember right I did this again either the day this started happening or the day before, for about 3 hours because I couldn't get to a washroom. Could that have anything to do with it? I don't know, I'm just obsessing over this and trying to figure out what I did. Should I even mention this to the doctor? I don't want to lead him into thinking something completely wrong.

I am beside myself with worrying, I don't want to face this. I don't want to have to show a doctor my junk and I certainly don't want to be like this forever. I know I need to talk to a doctor and I will be trying to get an appointment for tomorrow, I don't feel it's severe enough to go to ER and doctor is not open today, but I am very apprehensive about it.

:help:

Many factors can lead to you losing your libido. Stress, depression, medication, etc can all make a difference. As for the numbness - I would certainly call my doctor and make an appointment. Don't be worried about him examining your penis -- we have seen hundreds and rarely remember any.

Of course you are more than welcome to go to the ER should you feel like this is an Emergency - but I would follow up with my primary care physician. It is always best for your main doctor to know about everything. Just call and tell them you have a personal issue and would like to discuss it with the doctor - no questions asked. Going to the ER will cost quite a bit and it might take a while to get in to see a doctor. Where I work you are looking at a few hours at best.

Best of luck!

It's been a month since the original topic came up, so maybe the exam already took place. I'm sure many of us would like to know how it went.

sounds like something is damaged and isnt communicating with your brain correctly. i am only guessing, but drugs can cause this kind of thing. if you did anything or took anything out of the ordinary, no matter how small i would look into that.
