I can't wait to see this! I know Tasia killed it!

She is so amazingly talented. Unlike some other skanks that I won't bother mentioning.

Me too! I love Fantasia, such an amazing singer and performer... too bad people sleep on her... [-X

she's not really my style but she certainly is unique I will give her that. :)

Her voice is just outta this world, few people can sing baritone, alto, and soprano with as much believability as she does.

I'm sorry, where do you get your information on singers and their abilities? No offense, but Fantasia has never hit a baritone note. Not only did you skip a musical register, but you have basically stated that she has a five-octave range, which she does not possess. Sorry, that's where music is not subjective.

From a performer standpoint, she gives a lot of emotion in her performances.

Amen, she's probably the only idol winner who doesn't strike me as a karaoke lounge singer.

I understand, I'm sure I could find some baritone notes if I dug around youtube but that'll have to wait a bit. When she sings in her normal voice it's definitely lower than the average female pop singer. As far as baritone/alto/soprano, I took that from an excerpt in her autobiography where she said that part of her training in church involved learning to sing all three parts.

In her defense, she does have a bit more range than people give her credit for. She's certianly hit some low lows and some moderately high highs.

It's physiologically impossible for a female to hit baritone notes; even female singers noted for their unusual ranges have only sung into half of tenor, at their absolute lowest. Many pop stars are often sopranos, as that is most common in women anyway; however, I have never seen any performance or listened to any song where Fantasia has done anything unusual for being a singer.

I know I may seem like a jerk, but she is not being underrated. She really is average in her range. She has slightly over two octaves, which is about what the typical person can sing.

There are always exceptions, if I had the energy to do an extensive youtube search I'm almost certain I could prove you wrong. The best I could do in the short amount of time I have is this clip of Beyonce singing a thin but well-supported B2.

Um, ok. So, what's your point? I would certainly like to be proven wrong, but showing me that clip did not prove anything to me. Beyonce has one note in tenor, a male register, which is not even a full note. That does not make her a tenor though; she's still an alto. Mariah Carey, Rachel Farrelle, and Georgia Brown can still sing into a G2, which is lower. I have yet to hear those notes come from Fantasia.

And just how many of her performances have you heard?

I've seen approximately twenty of her performances, if you include her American idol performances as well.

Nah, just a smart-ass/know-it-all.:p

Look who's talking? Besides, I would rather be a smartass than a dumbass.

That statement is misleading, the average person CAN'T sing, so two octaves is impressive to me.

The statement is not misleading. The average length for a person's vocal chords is two octaves; this is human nature I'm discussing. However, I'm glad you're easily impressed. I bet Ne-Yo, Chris Brown, Ciara, Queen Latifah, Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, J. Holiday, Lloyd, Miley Cyrus, Ashlee Simpson are all impressive to you as well, huh?

Really? Everyone I've heard has classified her a dramatic mezzo. I don't know either way, I haven't really followed her career.

In simplistic, non-operatic terms, she would be considered an alto.

She didn't touch on shit on American Idol, she barely showed what she can do. I guarantee you'd be impressed if you heard some of her more shining moments.

I've heard some other performances outside of American Idol though. I'm just saying that I have not heard any sound come out of her mouth that was particularly unusual for a singer. You make it seem like I said she was talentless.

Get your panties out of a bundle, I was joking. And I'm not a dumbass. It's pretty sad that you can't discuss this without calling names. My dad can beat up your dad!:p

Oh, I know you were kidding. That's my smartass response to being called a smartass. I don't have to resort to personal attacks in discussions, however. I was trying to be funny, but it's hard to express that over the internet with no emotions (emoticons do not count).

And do you honestly believe every singer is aware of that potential? In my music classes and even in the pop seen I don't see many people who reach the peak of their voice, mediocre talent is acceptable in today's pop scene.

Mediocre talent may be what's acceptable, but that does not mean that these singers have not reached their full potential, which is mediocre. All I'm saying is if a person does not at least have two octaves, he or she may want to reconsider a career in singing. That's not exactly anything anyone should brag about having.

Fuck no, none of the above. Neyo=overrated, inefficient vocalist. Chris Brown=WTF? Ciara=needs to be a backup dancer. Queen Latifah=has a pretty voice. Britney Spears=should be a backupdancer. Justin Timberlake=an embarrassment to REAL soul music. J Holiday=won't be around this time next year. Lloyd=don't consider him a vocalist. Miley Cyrus=is NOT a singer. Ashlee Simpson=famous cuz her sister is famous.

The only reason I pointed these people out is that you stated that two octaves is impressive to you as a person. All of these people have approximately two octaves, with some of these singers having a few notes slightly over two octaves.

This is her best performance IMO. Had tears streaming down my face.
