A retconned entry into the Predator series about the alien hunter arriving on Earth in the early 1700s. Defending her tribe as an aspiring hunter Amber Midthunder turns in a balls-to-the-wall performance that kept me glued to the screen.
Some are calling this the best entry in the franchise and I can't disagree. I barely remember the originals from childhood-- possibly explained by my inability to stay awake during several recent attempts to watch the reboots. Ok, we get it, evil alien with weapons, stereotypical mega macho commando team, explosions CGI poorly-choreographed fights stifled further by spastic camerawork blah blah blah.
This movie is focused and never meanders. Can't say much more about it without giving anything away, you have to check it out for yourself. And yet again #teamwoke proves that when you embrace diversity and do not view other cultures as a threat or affront, we all win.

Apparently Ms Midthunder auditioned for the role in English and Comanche, the language the film was originally supposed to be dubbed in. They ended up shooting in both making this the first movie to be released with a Native dub.
It is surely a bittersweet moment for a culture that was wiped from the map in the most violent way and for many years was only portrayed in film as a savage unsophisticated antagonist to whiteness. (Yes, I'm talking color politics again. There's an X at the top of the screen if you don't like it).
Not much else needs to be said, the cinematography and pacing are sure to satisfy if you're into action movies and special recognition to Coco who plays canine sidekick Sarii-- the best human-dog duo since I Am Legend starring he who shall not be named for assaulting Chris Rock at the Oscars.
Anybody else see Prey?
