Production on Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins is underway in New Mexico, and to kick things off, Warner Bros. and Halcyon have released an official synopsis of the film.

The plot outline for the fourth Terminator, directed by McG and starring Christian Bale and Sam Worthington, is as follows:

"In the highly anticipated new installment of The Terminator film franchise, set in post-apocalyptic 2018, Christian Bale stars as John Connor, the man fated to lead the human resistance against Skynet and its army of Terminators. But the future Connor was raised to believe in is altered in part by the appearance of Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington), a stranger whose last memory is of being on death row. Connor must decide whether Marcus has been sent from the future, or rescued from the past. As Skynet prepares its final onslaught, Connor and Marcus both embark on an odyssey that takes them into the heart of Skynet's operations, where they uncover the terrible secret behind the possible annihilation of mankind.

The film also stars Anton Yelchin as Kyle Reese (the younger version of the role played by Michael Biehn in the original), Charlotte Gainsbourg as Kate Connor, Moon Bloodgood as Blair Williams, Common as Barnes and Jadagrace as Star.

So will there be large-scale battles/massacres, or is this based too soon after the 3rd for Conner to have started the large-scale resistance movement?

These events take place a decade later after the nuclear holocoust shown in "T3: Raise of the Machines", so it's understood that the battle between men and machines is at its peek.

John Connor, in his 30's, so he's already the head of the resistance, and since this is the first part of a new trilogy, this chapter is gonna make him face a menace that later will develop into something bigger.

For what I've heard, the last chapter will tie storylines with the original Terminator and the inclusion of Anton Yelchin playing the part of Kyle Reese, the father of John Connor, is an early indication of that.

Sounds very good. Any thoughts on whether or not the 'Good Terminators' will make appearances? Or possibly introduced characters from the TV show?

I'm glad to see the movie series continue but with a fresh change of pace. There's still so much to tap into with the terminator storyline rather than the same "Arnold terminator time traveling to past to alter the future" that was done with each previous movie.

Anton Yelchin is Charlie Bartlett and so adorable

Definitely agree. Anton Yelchin is a sexy, hot guy. You didn't see me complaining as he showed off his incredibly hot bulge in the underwear scene in Charlie Bartlett.
