I'm not sure this deserves its own thread but honestly, who knows where to park discusssion of this staggeringly sloppy, over-reaching, anti-democratic, ruinous piece of shit legislation that is designed to
literally ruin everything.

At the moment though, the tide has turned on tRumPcO. and the GQP on the passage of this tech bro, misanthropic, dystopian takeover of the Republic.

First up?

Proceduaral issues in the Senate. They are sending it back for a re-do.

MTG and the other whores in the House ought to be happy...now they have time to read it.

I also think that the current situation in LA is partly the result of TRumpCo. panicking about the possibility that the Bill is just going to self-immolate before it allows itself to be passed.

To avoid a filibuster everything in the bill must have something to do with budgetary matters. That doesn’t sound too difficult to understand but it must have eluded all those reps who praised Johnson for a job well done.

Part of me thinks that like some of the analysts have suggested...the House just bashed it through, relying on the Senate to revise and block in order to make it appear that the GQP reps were all faithful footsoldiers for Donald J. Christ and counting on the pushback to absolve them of reaponsibility with their voters.

Seems like such an incredible mess though.

It’s hard to govern when you don’t believe in government.

The Senate Parliamentarian just ruled against sections of the Big Ugly Bill that would have defunded financial regulatory positions in the government:

These included a provision that would have placed a funding cap on the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), which would have cut $6.4 billion from the agency by reducing its maximum funding to zero percent of the Federal Reserve’s operating expenses. The funding cut would have eliminated the agency...

She also ruled against language cutting $1.4 billion in costs by reducing the pay of Federal Reserve staff, cutting $293 million by reducing the Office of Financial Research funding and cutting $771 million by eliminating the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board.

All of these provisions were MAGA "gut the administrative state" fantasy items but it is also examples of Faustian bargains made to get corporate donations in exchange for eliminating governmental watchdogs.

If this stuff was embedded in the bloated budget bill, it's scary to think about what else was slipped into the bill. The Republicans have been complaining about Democratic omnibus ("big bills") that were thousands of pages long and were voted upon before anyone had a chance to read the bill. Yet, the first time they get back into power, what do they do? They put together a "Big Beautiful Bill" that is thousands of pages long and was voted upon before anyone had a chance to read the bill

Just a reminder of why the BBB is a Project 2025 takeover road map.

Spending cuts and tax cuts are just the facade.

That can’t be in the bill, if it were the bill would be open to a filibuster.

That's the problem with budget bills in the Senate. There was legislation passed years ago to expedite budgets through Congress called "Budget Reconciliation". As long as a budget passes the House, the Senate can take it up and pass it with 51 votes under that budget track It is not subject to filibuster.

This is the reason that Trump wanted one "big beautiful bill" because they could call it a "budget" and get it through the Senate where they have 53 Republicans. It's not actually a budget bill. It's a bunch of conservative wishlist items that have accumulated since the 1980s that the Republicans couldn't get through Congress under normal democratic processes.

The Parliamentarian is doing everyone a favor- Republican and Democrat- by calling out stuff that can't be passed under reconciliation. She did the exact same thing when Democrats have tried to put in non-reconciliation item into budget bills.

GOP 2021: “The debt is out of control!

GOP 2022: “the debt is out of control!”

GOP 2023: “the debt is out of control!"

GOP 2024: “the debt is out of control!”

GOP 2025: ”let’s raise the debt ceiling $5 trillion!”

And this is how it will work.

Carve-outs for Red States. Carve-outs to buy thge vote of someone who has no problem cutting benefits for others, just not her state.

Alaska, like West Virginia, is a one of the top "welfare" States. All Alaskan citizens get an annual check from the government that is subsidized by the Alaska Permanent Fund Dividend. APFD is funded from oil and gas revenues from drilling on Alaska's lands. The annual check is about $1,500 per person but has been as high as $3,000.

Unlike Hawaii, which guarantees healthcare to all of its native-American population, Alaskan Native-Americans get their healthcare through Medicaid. The "employer mandate" would never work for Alaska's Native population because most of the population isn't employed by companies and those who are employed don't work for companies with more than 300 employees, which is the cutoff for health insurance requirements for employers.

This is what makes Murkowski unbeatable, whether it's a Republican or Democratic opponent. She's an old-fashioned pork-barrel politician who puts Alaska before party allegiance, but occasionally the two goals align. If she votes for the bill, it will be a stain of her reputation in the long run, though.

Precisely.

She and Susan Collins have repeatedly raised objections to this or that in Trump's illegal list of actions, but invariably fallen in line. The crocodile tears don't fool us.

As a former Alaskan, the citizens there are quick to boast of ruggedness and independence while sucking at the federal teat like a rent boy.

It reminds me of the farmers I knew in the Mississippi Delta back in the 80's who bemoaned the rigors of farm life while seated in air-conditioned combines and all winter long idle in the local cafe/coffee shops. And then there were the federal subsidies they accepted to not plant acres and acres. Don't know a single one who voted anything but Republican.

Performance theatre by the GQP.

Republicans just FAILED in their first vote on a motion to commit on Trump's Budget Bill, 49-51.

Watch the hold-outs fall in line as they are paid off.

Of course Republicons have voted down every amendment to the bill from Dems.

And no one will know or care in the US.

The People have apparently checked out.

Patty Murray forced a vote to try to strip out Republicans' defund Planned Parenthood provision from their Big Ugly bill.Republicans voted NO. They voted to shutter some 200 health clinics and deny women basic health care like cancer screenings & birth control.

Senator Tillis and Herr Fuhrer are the 2nd cosmic clash of this term, after Elon.

The miscalculatiton of the state in play, North Carolina, is huge, considering the rising defection of GOP voters below the politician level.

I've been saying for YEARS republicans these fascists are doing things, and creating conditions that kill people. Creating as much misery, cruelty, and despair as they can, is their objective.

They want people to die.

Are you ready to believe it now?
