"The Big Gay Sketch Show" on LOGO

I've seen two episodes so far and they were terrible! I can see why the straight community finds humor in our stereotypes because we do the same thing. The sketches were filled with bull dykes, mincing men, lisps and any other stereotype you could think of. Totally weak.

Well, for sure, I liked some of the sketches better than others, but I don't think the stereotypes (which do exist in the community) are necessarily meant to be an exercise in social commentary, and one must ask how far out of our way we must go to simply not portray people that *DO* exist in life. It's almost like we need to hide certain parts of our community and pretend they're not there. Disassociating from NAMBLA is a good thing, but disassociating from every gay man that's somewhat fem and every lesbian that's more on the butch side is almost a bit homophobic.

A good example of something that was meant for the straight community is Brokeback Mountain, which I didn't like because of the fucked up ending where one of those 'fags' had to die. I like the lighter side of The Big Gay Sketch Show. I suppose I'm one of the few fans of it. But, yes, it could use some more fun sketches like "Girls/Boys Gone Wilde", the lesbian date line where the caller got off every time the callee started talking about non-sexual, Margaret Cho/lesbian type stuff, and fewer lame ones like that weird ballerina sketch. I tend to enjoy the one where Michael Serrato dresses up as that Debbie Novotny type drag queen mother that's always trying to fix up everyone with her son "Donovan".

I agree that the whole fake set and laugh-track thing is a little lame. But every episode I've seen so far has had some great LOL moments, even if they were few and far between. They just need a bigger budget, an audience, and one less Johnny McGovern. Even if it's no SNL, I do appreciate a comedy show just for gays.

My favorite moment of the show was "Chicago Style Yoga". Namaste, bitches!
It's got funny moments and some are just shitty.
My problem is that most of the time when I go to record it, my cable box dies. Only on Logo. I think it's a plot from my cable company.

I was just hoping from more from it...I mean Rosie is producing it...you'd think she could find some funnier gay comics

Well see it could be so much funnier but they seem to do jokes that are overdone and just not funny anymore. They need more original jokes and less stereotype skits.

I just got the channel today. I was expecting more soft core gay porn on there...haha! They show the same stuff over and over, by the looks of it, since I looked at the programs on the guide.

It's a textbook example of most cable channels these days, Orton86. The only reasons I watch LOGO is for reruns of Queer As Folk, Noah's Arc, and the movies. Otherwise, like I am with TV in general, I just don't watch.

Bad writing, not funny at all, painful to watch.
Did you get the idea I don't like it?

While I did look forward to some of their programming when I had the channel, dear God, I wish they'd get their act together about rerun abuse and editing. But they're owned by the same people who run MTV and VH-1, who also rerun their shows endlessly, so I can't say I'm shocked.

Julie Goldman's got some talent, and there have been like three funny sketches in the past two seasons.

But think about that. Two seasons. Something like thirty episodes. Only three amusing sketches, out of which only one sticks out in my head (lesbian phone sex). This show needs either a complete overhaul of the writing staff or a quick boot into the trash bin.

I used to like this show. I miss this channel (LOGO) and show. I had to get cable (HATE FREAKING CABLE) when I moved because satellite doesn't have reception in my area (freaking trees! lol).

It's not all bad, but definitely needs some help
