After defiantly stating they were (or at least Maines was) ashamed to be from the same state as GWB at the start of the war with Iraq, the Dixie Chicks were blackballed from country music radio.

Later on, they swept the Grammy's with "Not Ready to Make Nice."

Now that it is quite everyone's opinion that George W. Bush was a really incompetent president, why hasnt the Dixie Chicks been embraced back to the fold?

Also, with the recent outing as a solo artist, is there bad blood between Maines and the other chicks? The group did stand by her and it seemed that their respective families were bound by a genuine friendship, why is Maines and the Dixie Chicks still considered as a pariah?

Matt Damon, Madonna and countless celebrities have been vocal about their opposition of Bush during and after his term, why has the Chicks been singled out years after the fact?

Any thoughts?

good points you made. I forgot about them til just now. They really had some great music, and Im not much of a country fan.. I think they have a stigma attached to them now and its not a good one unfortunatley. Kinda like the one Psy from Gangnum Style has. People get really touchy about American Pride, etc... As for Natalie and the girls, I just think they have grown apart and the sisters are just tired of being part of Natalies shadow, since she was/is the one causing all the negative attention. Maybe they just want to distance themselves from her.. gonna have to Youtube some of their music now. I think I'll start with Goodbye Earl. :)

"Why did they have to call themselves the Dixie chicks!?! with those Kmart clogs and naval lint they just give us southern girls a bad name!" - Mary Cherry

Natalie did a long interview on Howard Stern show on Sirius radio(of which she is a big fan and friend of Howard) and said the Bush thing did fuck the group up big time--and changed her for the rest of her life---they were blacklisted and received all kinds of scary death threats---she swore that the other girls didn't get mad at her, but she felt terrible that she sorta fucked up their lives too by opening her big mouth---This interview was before Xmas and she was doing some dates with the Dixie Chicks , I think it was in Canada---but then she would tour solo with her new album---she said she is going in a different musical direction---that she does not rule out touring with them again---she just feels that incident woke her up in a way and was life changing---and the stress of the event did a good job (they were all afraid someone would shoot them on the stage) of destroying the group.

I think it's because a large majority of country fans are republican and right wing. Green Day, Madonna, Barbra Streisand etc can all say it without offending because they have a very different fanbase.

She also doe a podcast with Greg Fitzsimmons, she is really funny. She has made enough money to not work anymore but she said wanted to go in a different direction. She said she is sorta glad the girls haven't called to ask to get the group together, either because they are not ready or they don't think she is ready. I don't think there is really any "bad" blood because they did stick together when everything broke loose, they didn't just throw her to the wolves. She did say she was right about Bush not being shit or something to that effect.

Natalie's solo stuff is sounding pretty great...looking forward to "Mother" coming out in May!

country is really a niche in europe. when they caused a scandal by speaking up against the president and the war, it was the first time i even heared of the dixie chicks. about a year ago, i started to explore country music, and the dixie chicks were one of the first bands i turned to. i really like them, i listen to theit best of quite often.

As far as being blackballed from country music airwaves.that could also be cause Natalie talked shit about Toby Keith as well.who happens to be very respected in the country music industry.
